Here’s How Much The Ola S1’s Battery Pack Costs

Modified On Feb 20, 2023 11:07 AM By Nishaad for Ola S1

It costs nearly 70 percent of the e-scooters's prices!

One of the major worries for an EV owner is the cost of its battery pack. While mainstream manufacturers do offer a warranty, people are still curious to know their price, if it ever came to an out-of-warranty replacement. A tweet that has now gone viral shows exactly how much the packs cost for Ola’s e-scooters

The Ola S1’s 2.98 kWh battery pack costs Rs 66,549. The Ola S1 Pro, on the other hand, uses a 3.97 kWh battery pack, one that costs Rs 87,298. That makes the batteries’ cost nearly 70 percent of the original scooter’s price, showing just how expensive battery packs can be on e-scooters, especially on such premium, high-capacity ones.

Why SO High?

The high prices of the battery packs are mainly down to the fact that India is still in its infancy stages as far as battery production is concerned. Since Lithium reserves need to be judiciously used and we have to pay high custom duties, the final price of the battery pack is quite an eye-watering one.

That said, things should get better in a couple of years as EVs become a lot more common. We also expect that going forward, as Ola ramps up in-house Li-ion cell production, these costs will come down as well. In recent news, Ola recently launched new variants of the S1 and S1 Air.
