Hero's First Electric Scooter - What To Expect?
The Indian two-wheeler manufacturer will be launching its first EV by March 2022
Right towards the end of Hero’s 10-year anniversary of the brand going solo, top boss Pawan Munjal showed us what the company was working on for its future: its first electric scooter. Hero had cited interest in building one a couple of years ago, and had since acquired a stake in Ather and even partnered up with Taiwan’s Gogoro earlier this year. The electric scooter finally has a launch timeline: March 2022. So what can we expect from Hero?

From the video, the upcoming Hero electric scooter looks quite petite. It isn’t quite as conventional and sombre in its design as the TVS iQube Electric. Hero has managed to balance sportiness and simplicity well. LED lighting is a given, though.
Simple foundations
Hero’s mantra for its new range of two-wheelers seems to be lightness. You can make out that the alloy wheels look slim and airy, the front fork is slim and the body might be made out of plastic. One cause for worry is the lack of a front disc brake. The scooter shown in the video missed out on the advanced braking tech.
Swappable battery
Given Hero’s new partnership with Gogoro, the electric scooter is bound to feature swappable battery technology. Hero and Gogoro are said to set up swappable battery stations across the country, which will boost the implementation of the tech.
Comfy Ergonomics
Again, if we were to deduce from the video, the electric scooter had quite a large seat and tall handlebar. The floor also doesn’t seem too high, much like a conventional ICE scooter.
Given how the electric space is panning out, Hero needs to ace its pricing strategy for its scooter to make a serious mark in the minds of the buyers.
