Hero To Launch An Electric Scooter By March 2022
The scooter will be manufactured at its plant in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh
Hero had entered into a partnership with Taiwan’s Gogoro earlier this year. The upcoming scooter was teased during its 10th anniversary celebrations The Chittoor plant houses Battery Pack Manufacturing and Testing, Vehicle End of Line Testing (EOL) and Vehicle Assembly UnitHero doesn’t want to be left behind in the electric race with the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer announcing that its first electric vehicle, which we think is going to be a scooter, will be launched by March 2022. Hero has also said that the electric vehicle project is in its advanced stage and will be manufactured at its plant in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
Hero will be putting all of its learnings from investing in Ather Energy into its upcoming electric scooter, which was first teased during the company’s 10-year anniversary of going solo. Earlier this year, Hero also formed a strategic partnership with the Taiwan-based Gogoro Electric primarily for the latter’s battery swapping technology. It is highly likely that we will find some influence of these two companies in the Hero scooter.
The biggest challenge that lies ahead for Hero remains how it will make its electric scooter stand apart from the legion of new and premium scooters that we have witnessed this year. The likes of the Ola S1 Pro, the TVS iQube Electric, the Bajaj Chetak and even the upcoming Suzuki Burgman Electric will make some serious impact on the Indian buyer by the time the Hero e-scooter rolls out into the market. Not to forget, Honda is also quite keen and might have an electric scooter in the offing. Lastly, it will have the Ather 450X as a serious challenger. 2022 is surely going to be one hell of a ride.
