Honda Activa 125 BS6 vs BS4: Differences Explained
If you’re wondering whether the updates are substantial enough to go for the newer model, you’ve come to the right place!
The recently launched 2019 Honda Activa 125 is India’s first BS6-compliant two-wheeler and interestingly, the previous-generation Activa 125 is also still on sale currently. Are the updates comprehensive enough for prospective customers to buy the newer model rather than the older one? We list down all the differences to help you make a more informed decision.
BS6 model gets an all-new motor:
Specifications |
2019 Honda Activa 125 BS6 |
BS4 Honda Activa 125 |
Engine |
124cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, fuel injected |
124.9cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, carburetted |
Bore x Stroke |
50mm x 63.1mm |
52.4mm x 57.9mm |
Compression ratio |
10.0 +/- 0.2 :1 |
9.8:1 |
Peak power |
8.29PS at 6500rpm |
8.63PS at 6500rpm |
Maximum torque |
10.3Nm at 5000rpm |
10.54Nm at 5000rpm |
As you can see, the 2019 Activa 125’s engine has different bore and stroke configurations, and even the compression ratio has been increased. Interestingly, despite the addition of fuel injection, the new motor makes 0.34PS and 0.24Nm less than the older unit. However, the difference is too small a price to pay for cleaner emissions. Also, Honda claims that the BS6 engine is 13 per cent more fuel-efficient than the older powerplant.
In addition, the Japanese brand has equipped the engine with a host of technological upgrades like Idling Stop System, tweaked inlet port and Alternating Current Generator (ACG) starter, among others. You can read more about these features here. Unfortunately, the BS4 Honda Activa 125 does not have any of these features.
New Activa 125 also gets a number of practicality-enhancing updates:
While both scooters have an analogue-digital combo cluster, the 2019 iteration comes with distance-to-empty, real-time and average fuel efficiency as well. It also gets a side stand indicator which prevents the engine from powering up when the stand is down. All these features are missing in the BS4-compliant Activa 125. However, it does get a trip meter, service due indicator and eco speed indicator like the 2019 model.
Another aspect where the 2019 Activa 125 shines is the fact that it gets an external fuel filler, which is a first for a Honda scooter. Both scooters get a 3-in-1 lock switch which can be used to open the seat. However, in the 2019 model, this switch can also be used to open the external fuel tank cap. For added practicality, the BS6 Activa 125 also gets a small apron-mounted storage compartment which the older model lacks.
Slightly different bodywork and dimensions too:

BS6 Honda Activa 125 |
BS4 Honda Activa 125 |
Wheelbase |
1260mm |
1260mm |
Ground clearance |
169mm |
155mm |

108kg |
LxWxH |
1850mm x 707mm x 1170mm |
1814mm x 704mm x 1151mm |
The higher ground clearance in the newer Activa 125 should help it go over bad roads with ease. However, the scooter is 3kg heavier than the older model and we hope the added heft doesn’t affect its fuel efficiency.
In terms of design, the apron and the side panels in the 2019 Activa 125 have been reworked for a fresher look. Both scooters get chrome treatment on the apron, but on the sides, only the newer model gets chrome garnishing. Interestingly, the older scooter gets chrome finish on the exhaust heat shield whereas the newer model doesn’t. To accommodate the new external fuel filler, Honda has also tweaked the tail lamp design for a more modern look.

The 2019 Honda Activa 125 offers a number of useful features apart from being environmentally friendlier than the BS4 Activa 125. However, the price difference is a bit too much and the premium you pay for the higher-end variants is even more. That said, Honda offers a standard three-year warranty along with the option of extending it to three more years in the new Activa 125. The BS4 Activa 125, on the other hand, comes with a standard 2-year warranty with the option of extending it to three more years only.
All prices ex-showroom, Delhi.
