Honda Activa 6G: 5 Things To Know
Apart from a fuel-injected motor, here’s what else is new on the new-gen Activa
Honda has launched the 6th generation Activa in India. Apart from an updated BS6 motor, India’s best selling scooter gets a cosmetic overhaul and new features. Here are 5 facts you need to know about the new scooter.
Gets understated cosmetic updates:
Honda has kept the Activa 6G’s design quite similar to the outgoing Activa 5G. The outer bodywork may look the same but the 6G gets a new front fender and new chrome trim on the front apron. While the side panels may look similar, it now has one air intake instead of two. The tail section is elongated to accommodate a new external fuel filler cap. Even the rear grabrail has a slightly different design. The Activa 6G is longer than before and that has led to a 23mm longer floorboard and longer seat. The 18-litre underseat storage space remains unchanged. While the Activa 5G came in eight colours, the Activa 6G gets only six. They are Glitter Blue Metallic, Pearl Spartan Red, Dazzle Yellow Metallic, Black, Pearl Precious White and Matte Axis Grey Metallic.
Gets new features:
The new external fuel filler cap can be accessed via a switch next to the ignition slot that also opens the seat. While the LED headlamp has been carried over, it is available only on the Deluxe variant. On the switchgear front, you get a new pass light switch and engine kill switch. Interestingly the Activa 6G gets an analogue instrument console which is surprising since the Activa 5G got a semi-digital one. The speedometer, fuel gauge and even the odometer are analogue units.
It gets an all-new motor:
Rather than piling the Activa 6G with features, Honda has worked on an all new motor. The 109.51cc BS6-compliant powerplant has been worked on in areas of optimised fuel combustion, engine cooling and refinement. Like the BS6 TVS Jupiter, it also features fuel injection. Honda says the new motor has been tuned to deliver better bottom to mid-range performance for improved performance in city riding conditions. The new motor makes 7.79PS at 8000rpm and 8.79Nm at 5250rpm which is 0.18PS and 0.21Nm less than that of the Activa 5G. However, Honda claims the new Activa will be 10 percent more fuel efficient than before. Like the BS6 Activa 125, the Activa 6G gets an ACG starter generator that replaces the conventional motor and offers a silent start operation. However, it misses out on the start stop operation that’s standard on the Activa 125.
Gets new underpinnings:
The Activa 6G finally gets telescopic front forks. In addition, the scooter gets a 3-step preload-adjustable monoshock. While the previous iteration ran on 10-inch wheels, the Activa 6G gets a new 12-inch front wheel. The scooter continues to get steel wheels and drum brakes on both wheels to keep costs low. We wished it would get a front disc brake at least as an option. The wheelbase is longer now and ground clearance has improved as well.
Commands a slight premium now:
The new Activa 125 comes in two variants: Standard and Deluxe. While the Standard variant is priced at Rs 63,912 and the Deluxe variant retails at Rs 65,412 (both, ex-showroom Delhi). The price difference between the Activa 6G and Activa 5G Std variants are Rs 7,978 and Rs 7,613 between the DLX variants. Both price differences are on par with other scooters transitioning from BS4 to BS6. Honda is offering a 3-year warranty plus a 3 year extended warranty on the Activa BS6.
