[Update: Kawasaki has launched the Ninja ZX-25 in Indonesia. Know prices and more details here.]
The power and torque figures were leaked from Akrapovic’s website
- The ZX-25R produces more power at the wheel than the 390 Duke’s figures at the crank.
- Consequently, expect the output figures at the crank to be a little higher.
- A black colour variant of the ZX-25R has been spotted in Indonesia.
All our speculations about the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R’s specifications have finally been laid to rest thanks to Akrapovic. The power and torque figures measured at the wheel have been leaked on the brand’s website. The bike produces 42.01PS at a dizzying 15,350rpm and 20.8Nm of torque at 12,700rpm. These are figures measured at the wheel using a dynamometer.
Power measured at the wheel includes the energy losses due to transmission when the power is transferred from the engine crank to the chain drive via gearing. Naturally, expect the power and torque measured at the crank be a little higher. Usually, transmission losses amount to around 10 per cent in motorcycles. If you take that into account, the peak power is likely to be about 46PS at the crank.
In comparison, the KTM 390 Duke produces 43.5PS at 9000rpm and 37Nm at 7000rpm at the crank. In the Kawasaki ZX-25R, the Akrapovic exhaust offers a 2.44PS and 1.8Nm increase in power and torque respectively. Compared to the stock figures, the peak power arrives at 100rpm later and the peak torque kicks in at 200rpm earlier. This coupled with the massive 4.4kg reduction in weight (the exhaust weighs 4.5kg as opposed to the stock unit’s 8.9kg heft) should make the bike more agile and involving to ride, not to mention the glorious exhaust note.
In a related development, a black colour variant of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R has also been spotted in Indonesia. It looks a lot more subtle compared to the green colour variant with the Kawasaki Racing Team livery. The black colour variant features gloss paint finish with ‘Kawasaki’ and ‘ZX-25R’ stickering on the fairing. The ‘4 Cylinder’ sticker on the tail panel highlights the motorcycle’s USP.
