The quarter-litre 4-cylinder track tamer is set to be launched in Indonesia first
- The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R is the only 250cc four-cylinder production supersport at present.
- It was initially scheduled to be launched in April but that got delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
- The bike is likely to be more powerful than the KTM 390 Duke and the RC 390.
Kawasaki is all set to launch the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R in Indonesia tomorrow. The bike was unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show and was initially scheduled to be launched on April 4. However, the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc across the globe, disrupting economies and Kawasaki’s launch plans as well. The bike is likely to be offered in two variants: with and without ABS. According to the leaked price list, the motorcycle is likely to start from IDR 98,800,000, which is around Rs 5.10 lakh. We’ll get a better idea when the bike is launched tomorrow.
That sounds a bit too expensive considering even the bigger-engined India-spec BS4 Kawasaki Ninja 400 undercuts this motorcycle by around Rs 11,000. One of the primary reasons why it is so expensive is likely because despite the small engine, it is powerful enough to go up against bigger bikes like the KTM RC 390 and the KTM 390 Duke. The motorcycle reportedly makes a whopping 42.01PS and 20.8Nm at the wheel. So, the output figures at the crank are bound to be a little higher.
It is also loaded with top-spec features like multiple power modes, traction control, and a 6-speed transmission with a quickshifter. It even gets sophisticated underpinnings in the form of Showa SFF-BP front fork and a horizontal backlink rear monoshock, both of which are likely to be fully adjustable.
Kawasaki is unlikely to launch this motorcycle in India as it will deem to be too expensive for a bike of its class. Moreover, a lot of Indian riders have a mindset of equating cubic capacity with performance, so a 250cc motorcycle might not make sense for a lot of riders when it ends up being more expensive than a 400cc bike. That said, there are a lot of enthusiasts like us who’d really want this quarter-litre screamer in India. Hope Kawasaki listens to our prayers. What do you guys think?
