More Affordable Bajaj Chetak Variant Spied Testing

Modified On Apr 25, 2024 04:00 PM By Nishaad for Bajaj Chetak [2020 - 2024]

Despite the apparent cost cutting, the test mule’s bright and attractive colour scheme seems to be an upgrade

(Update: Bajaj Auto has launched the most affordable Chetak, called the Bajaj Chetak 2901. Check out the details here.)

About a month ago, we talked about a more affordable Chetak variant incoming and now, the scooter has been spotted testing already. And first things first, while this new Bajaj Chetak variant will likely be the most affordable in the Chetak lineup, this was one spotted in this lovely blue shade that looks quite attractive.

But apart from that, there are various ways in which Bajaj has cut costs on this one. For starters, you’ll notice it loses out on the front disc brake. So this one gets drum brakes and steel wheels (replacing the alloys on the standard Chetak) at both ends. Another thing are the two open cubby holes replacing the lockable glove box on the standard Chetak.

EXCLUSIVE: 2024 Bajaj Pulsar N160 With Inverted Fork Launched!

The scooter now has a key slot with a physical key, and the fully digital colour LCD instrument cluster has been replaced by a negatively lit LCD console, like the one on the Chetak when it was first launched in 2020. We think it’ll either get basic connectivity or connectivity as a whole would be offered as an optional add-on.

In sum, this new variant will be a detuned version of the base Chetak. For perspective, the 2.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack in the Chetak’s Urbane variant gets an ARAI-certified 113km range in the Urbane variant. We expect Bajaj to launch this new variant latest by May 2024, and it should be priced around the Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom including EMPS) mark. Once here, it will rival scooters like the TVS iQube, Ather 450S and Ola S1 X
