India’s very own Mahindra, two wheeler manufacturer, has brought to us the 2012 Rodeo RZ125 automatic scooter that contains an array of new features to make scooter an instant hit. Customer feedback has led to most of the changes that Mahindra has inflicted on this vehicle. The automatic scooters that that Mahindra two wheelers has been selling have been lifted from the former Kinetic’s two wheeler business after being taken over by Mahindra. The scooters now come with a Mahindra badging and now sell under Mahindra two wheelers name. South Korea is responsible for Rodeo’s underpinning. Mahindra Rodeo is an automatic scooter designed and developed by SYM, Kinetic had collaborated with this South Korean company for a range of automatic scooters.
Many crucial changes have been done under the skin, changes which will actually affect the long term ownership of the scooter. Visually, the scooter comes with new graphics and some new paint shades. The ground clearance of Rodeo RZ125 has been incremented by 24mm to 154 mm. This means all the speedbreakers and pothole challenges that Indian cities throw at the Rodeo will be no trouble. Additional underseat storage space has been provided on the 2012 model of Rodeo RZ125, another feature that will make the vehicle a long time affair. The 125cc four stroke engine has been reworked upon for increased fuel economy.
Fuel economy was one of the weakest features of older Rodeo and if this problem is solved, this automatic scooter is bound to find much more acceptance. Mahindra Rodeo RZ 125 produces a maximum power of 8.1 bhp at 7,000 rpm and a peak torque as high as 9 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The vehicle’s 106 kg kerb weight leads the path for a good power and torque output. The price of this wonderful new Rodeo are yet to be announced and Mahindra plans to launch the scooter in South India first in the next couple of months followed by others in phases.
