Ola Showcases The Ola Solo Self-Balancing Electric Scooter
Moreover, the Ola S1 range witnessed a record-breaking 53,000 registrations in March 2024
On April 1, 2024, Ola Electric dropped a video showcasing the Ola Solo, a self-driving scooter technology. The video showcased that with Ola Solo, you no longer have to ride the scooter yourself and will just have to enjoy the ride on the pillion seat, it also showed that the scooter goes to the nearest hypercharger when its battery gets low. Of course, it turned out to be an April Fools joke.
Not just an April fools joke!

We announced Ola Solo yesterday. It went viral and many people debated whether it’s real or an April fools joke!
While the video was meant to provide a laugh to people, the technology behind it is something we’ve been working on and have… pic.twitter.com/4AUEqtPBGW
However, many believed it to be true and Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal later tweeted clarifying that the video was just for laughs. But Bhavish also revealed that Ola has been working on a prototype of a self-driving electric scooter which features autonomous driving and self-balancing tech.
Such technology is not something new in the two-wheeler industry; Liger Mobility had revealed India's first self-balancing scooter back at the 2023 Auto Expo. However, we think that a practical version of a self-driving and self-balancing scooter will still take some time to make its way to the Indian markets. Besides, considering the traffic and roads in India, the vehicle would have to be really advanced, with the ability to constantly make efficient split-second decisions.
