OBD 2 norms will require vehicles to comply with preset emission levels in real time and not just in laboratory conditions, and hence will be fitted with the second-generation Onboard Diagnostic Device. This device helps notify riders about any malfunctions via the console.

Additionally, with Suzuki scooters now being E20-compliant, they will be able to run on petrol containing an ethanol blend of up to 20 per cent. Suzuki had earlier also showcased its flex-fuel-powered working prototype of the Gixxer 250 at the Auto Expo.

With India soon moving into phase two of the BS6 emission norms, expect other manufacturers to follow suit and launch their OBD-2-compliant two-wheelers this month.
