  • The bike shares its engine with the Suzuki GN250.

Breston, the premium sub-brand of Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Wangjiang, has launched the C1, a retro bike, in China for 18,800 Yuan. That converts to around Rs 2 lakh in Indian currency. What’s really intriguing about this bike is that despite being a Chinese motorcycle, its heart is actually Japanese.

The Breston C1 is powered by a 249cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine from Suzuki’s GN250 that was sold in the 90s. However, Breston has modernised the engine by giving it a fuel injection system from Delphi and it now produces 19.7PS of power and 18Nm of torque. Underpinnings include an inverted front fork and dual gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear. For braking, it uses a disc brake on both ends with ABS offered as standard.

The bike gets relatively simple body panels that give it a retro effect and is further complemented by a round headlamp (lighting system is all-LED), scrambler-style braced handlebars and a bench seat. The ergonomics are pretty upright and this coupled with the 14.5 litre fuel tank should offer great potential for laidback touring. Also, the spoke wheels shod with block pattern tyres along with the decent 190mm ground clearance should come in handy for a little bit of trail riding. At 155kg kerb, the motorcycle is 2kg heavier than the Yamaha FZ25 BS6

Overall, the Breston C1 looks like a promising budget retro motorcycle but going by the pictures, the fit and finish levels could have certainly been better. Looking at this motorcycle, we can’t help but reminisce about the Ace Deluxe retro bike from Cleveland Cycle Werks. What do you guys think?
