Honda's Activa range continues to be the highest selling scooter in the country

In India, scooters have always been in great demand as these not only offer convenience but are also affordable. But selecting a scooter today can be overwhelming considering the sheer number of companies vying for a piece of the pie. So it's evident that buyers are spoilt for choice.

That said, some scooters have remained eternal favourites. In this report, we look at those which dominated the sales chart in October 2021.

Honda’s Activa range -- comprising Activa 6G and Activa 125 -- has yet again topped the chart. However, sales have overall declined for the two scooters -- by around 17.89 percent compared to October 2020 and 19.83 percent compared to September this year.

The TVS Jupiter has yet again secured the second rank on the list. While the Jupiter has registered an overall dip in sales of around 2.69 percent compared to October 2020, the numbers have gone up by about 21.93 percent compared to last month.

The Suzuki Access is again third on the list, witnessing a decline in sales by around 11.42 percent over the last year. However, compared to September 2021, the scooter has bettered its numbers by 3 percent.

The TVS Ntorq’s sales figures decreased by 18.49 percent and 12.76 percent compared to last year and September 2021, respectively. The 125cc scooter still managed to come in fourth on the list, replacing the Honda Dio, which witnessed the highest degrowth of around 41.78 percent and 25.80 percent compared to last year and September this year, respectively. This indicates that it surely needs a significant update to continue selling well in the Indian market.

All in all, compared to last year, most scooters have seen a decline in sales. The likely reason could be that people have again started relying on public transport, buoyed by mass vaccinations and the reducing COVID-19 caseload.
