Looking at the sales figures for September 2022, premium electric scooters like the Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak have fared impressively well when compared to budget electric scooters. This clearly signifies the wildfire popularity the electric segment is currently experiencing, while the scope of this number growing even further is immense.
Leading this electric revolution is the Ather 450X with a year-on-year growth of 251%, which in its Gen 3 avatar, looks to have increased its appeal. Following closely in second spot is the Okinawa Praise Pro, which is one of the most popular budget electric scooters. TVS iQube stands third in the list followed closely by Bajaj Chetak and the Okinawa iPraise.
A few noteworthy names missing from this list are offerings from Ampere, Ola Electric and Hero Electric. As per the Federation Of Automobile Dealers Association’s (FADA) report for September 2022, 9432 units of Ola e-scooters were registered while Hero Electric and Ampere registered 7880 and 6073 units respectively.

Additionally, the number of vehicles registered in a month is not an accurate representation of the number of units sold in a month as it includes spillovers from previous month.
This demand for electric vehicles is only accelerated by EV subsidies like the Union’s FAME II subsidy and various State EV subsidies. However, a few States like Goa and Maharashtra have withdrawn the EV subsidies for reasons that you can check out in our exclusive story here.
