Top 5 Lightest Premium Electric Scooters In India: Ola S1, Ather 450X And More!

Modified On Aug 18, 2021 01:11 PM By Gaurav Sadanand for Ola S1

Looking to go green? Here are the five lightest premium e-scooters you should consider

The electric scooter space in India is gaining momentum with the entry of mainstream manufacturers, and it's high time everyone makes the shift. If you’re looking for a lightweight EV for your family, the following scooters should be on your radar:

While we would have loved to cover more affordable low-speed e-scooters, none of their kerb weights is listed on their respective websites. So, we shifted our focus to the premium segment instead.

Ola S1 - 121kg, S1 Pro - 125kg

The Ola S1 and S1 Pro were the most anticipated launches of 2021. These scooters are not only heavily packed with features but also offer performance that could easily compete with ICE scooters at a price tag that’s hard to resist. The S1 weighs in at 121kg while the S1 Pro tips the scale at 125kg. Admittedly, that’s still on the heavier side but according to the manufacturer, the positioning of the battery makes the scooter quite nimble.

Price: S1 - Rs 99,999, S1 Pro - Rs 1,29,999 (both ex-showroom, Bengaluru)

Range: S1 - 121km, S1 Pro - 181km

Top Speed: S1 - 90kmph, S1 Pro - 115kmph

Bajaj Chetak: 118kg kerb

Bajaj was the first of the mainstream manufacturers to enter the EV space with the Chetak -- an electric interpretation of the original Chetak. Its retro looks, extensive feature list, and range roped in buyers aplenty. You can choose between two variants: Urbane and Premium, but the differences are mostly cosmetic. At 118kg (kerb), it’s relatively light and easy to use.

Price: Urbane - Rs 1 lakh, Premium - Rs 1.15 lakh

Range: 95km in Eco mode, 85km in Sport mode

Top Speed: 70kmph

TVS iQube Electric - 118kg

TVS is the only two-wheeler manufacturer in India that offers both ICE and electric scooters under the same roof. So, the iQube could easily be the perfect alternative to say… the Jupiter. It’s reliable, well-built, has a decent amount of range, and two ride modes that work well to easily help keep pace with city traffic. You can feel its 118kg of weight only when you move it around, although it doesn’t feel as heavy on the go.

Price: Rs 1,00,777 (on-road price, with subsidies)

Range: 75km in Eco. 55km in Sport

Top Speed: 78kmph

Simple One - 110Kg

Bengaluru-based startup Simple Energy recently launched its flagship scooter, the Simple One , in India. It offers a claimed range of 203km in Eco mode (40-50kmph), which is the best in its segment. Its top speed is rated at 105km and it weighs in at just 110kg making it one of the lightest scooters in its segment.

Price:  Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom)

Range: 203km in Eco

Top Speed: 105kmph

Ather 450X kerb weight - 108kg

And then there was one. The Ather 450X, which has proven time and again to be the best electric scooter in India, is also the lightest of the lot at 108kg. It’s lightning-quick, offers a decent range, and features that set the benchmark in the segment. You couldn’t really go wrong with this one.

Price: Ather 450 Plus - Rs 1,13,416, 450X - Rs 1,32,426 (both ex-showroom, Delhi)

Range: 85km (Eco), 70km (Ride), 60km (Sport)

Top Speed: 80kmph
