2021 has witnessed some feature-packed and even performance-oriented scooter launches; Here's the lowdown

In India, people opt for scooters for their easy-to-ride nature, fuel efficiency and practicality. But the Indian market has evolved much more than offering just point A to B commutes, as several feature-rich scooters with performance to boot have been launched in the country. Here’s a roundup of all the interesting scooters that arrived in India in 2021.

110cc scooters:

TVS Jupiter With Stop-Start System -

At the beginning of 2021, TVS launched the ZX Disc variant of the Jupiter 110. This new variant came equipped with a stop-start system (IntelliGo) that switches off the engine as soon as the scooter comes to a halt, and by just a simple twist of the throttle, it brings the motor back to life. This system should go a long way in conserving fuel especially on traffic-riddled roads.. The Hosur-based brand also claims that the 109.7cc BS6 engine offers 15 percent more mileage than the BS4 model. The TVS Jupiter ZX Disc with IntelliGo is priced at Rs 76,573 (ex-showroom Delhi) and here's our full review of the same.

Hero Pleasure Plus XTec -

Post the launch of the Glamour XTec, Hero also added the XTec tag to its 110cc scooter, the Pleasure Plus in October 2021. The updates in this new variant include features such as a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster that displays call alerts and messages, a new LED projector headlight which is claimed to be 25 percent brighter than the earlier halogen unit, new chrome elements up front, and a pillion backrest. Mechanically, it remains the same as the standard variant. The Pleasure Plus XTec variant gets an exclusive new Jubilant Yellow colour and is priced at Rs 71,100 (ex-showroom Delhi).

125cc Scooters:

Aprilia SXR 125 -

After confirming it at the 2020 Auto Expo, Aprilia finally launched the SXR125 maxi-scooter in May 2021. The 125cc maxi-scooter is priced at Rs 1,16,358 (ex-showroom Delhi), and comes equipped with the same bodywork and foundation as the SXR160. On the features front, it gets an LED headlight and taillight, a split-type lockable glove box with a USB charging port, and a digital instrument cluster that displays basic information such as mileage, top speed, rpm, trip, time, and odometer reading. However, the dash misses out on smartphone connectivity as standard, and customers need to buy it additionally.

TVS NTorq:

Race XP -

The TVS NTorq 125 is one the sportiest and most feature-packed scooters in its segment. Raising the stakes even higher, the Hosur-based manufacturer launched the NTorq 125 Race XP variant with segment-first riding modes! The NTorq Race XP offers two riding modes: Race and Street, and makes 0.82PS and 0.3Nm more than the standard variant. But that's not all, as the scooter also gets voice assist. The NTorq Race XP is priced at Rs 85,550 (ex-showroom Delhi) which makes it only Rs 3,800 more expensive than the Race Edition. To know whether or not the premium is justified, read our review here.

Spiderman And Thor Edition -

The Hosur-based brand also launched the Spiderman And Thor Edition of the NTorq, though they only get cosmetic updates, while mechanically remaining the same. The Spiderman Edition gets its paint scheme and graphics inspired by the Marvel comics superhero Spiderman. Meanwhile, the Thor Edition, too, gets cosmetic updates inspired by the superhero Thor. These two new editions are priced at Rs 84,850 (ex-showroom Delhi) which makes them Rs 1,025 more expensive than the Iron Man, Black Panther, and Captain America-themed versions of the SuperSquad Edition.

Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid -

Yamaha has updated the Fascino 125 with segment-first mild-hybrid technology which is now priced at Rs 79,530 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the Hybrid Disc variant. The scooter is powered by a 125cc engine that now comes with a smart motor generator that assists the petrol engine while accelerating from a standstill. This engine makes 8.3PS (same as before) and 10.3Nm (0.6Nm more). In addition to the mild-hybrid technology, the scooter also gets a new digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, an LED headlight, a USB charging port and a side-stand engine cutoff. On the features front, it gets a silent starter, combined braking system, side stand engine cut-off, a 21-litre underseat storage, and a stop-start system.
