TVS NTorq 125 Race XP vs TVS NTorq 125 BS6: Performance Numbers Compared

Published On Oct 5, 2021 03:13 PM By Manaal Mahatme for TVS NTORQ 125

Has TVS actually made the 125cc scooter sportier compared to the standard model?

The TVS NTorq 125 has been the country’s favourite sporty scooter. But when the BS6-compliant model rolled out, it lacked the eagerness of the previous model. But well, TVS had a fix for that. The Hosur-based company launched the new TVS NTorq 125 Race XP to reclaim its title of being the most exciting 125cc scooter on sale in India. But how much of a difference does the XP have over the standard model in terms of performance? Let’s find out:

Acceleration:

NTorq 125 Race XP

NTorq 125 BS6

0-40kmph

3.84 seconds (Race)

4.37 seconds (Street)

4.20 seconds

0-60kmph

8.07 seconds (Race)

9.88 seconds (Street)

9.26 seconds

0-80kmph

15.37 seconds (Race)

19.66 seconds (Street)

18.73 seconds

Despite using the same 124.8cc single-cylinder engine, TVS managed to squeeze out 10.2PS and 10.8Nm from the Race XP, which is 0.82PS and 0.6Nm more than the standard variant. Additionally, the bikemaker has shaved off 2kg in the new model. The result? The Race XP is 0.36 seconds quicker than the standard model right off the line, and widens the gap to a massive 3.36 seconds in the 0-80kmph sprint.

Roll-ons:

20-50kmph

4.32 seconds (Race)

5.02 seconds (Street)

4.46 seconds

The standard NTorq 125 BS6 wasn’t as quick as its BS4 model in our acceleration tests, but it was 0.19 seconds quicker in roll-on accelerations. With the Race XP, TVS has made the scooter even quicker, and in the ‘Race’ mode, it is now 0.14 seconds faster, while in ‘Street’ mode, it is slower by 0.16 seconds compared to the NTorq 125 BS6. But then, TVS hasn’t just favored performance against fuel economy for the Race XP, and added a separate, milder map (Street) that makes it slower than the standard NTorq 125, but makes it easier on the pocket.

Fuel Economy:

Highway FE

55.85kmpl

56.23kmpl

City FE

54.33kmpl

51.54kmpl

The milder ‘Street’ riding mode makes the throttle response a bit mellower, giving it a calmer demeanor which in turn burns less fuel. In fact, despite having the same engine, we managed to extract almost 3kmpl from the Race XP compared to the standard model. That said, the highway fuel efficiency figures are almost identical.

Braking:

60-0kmph

18.36 metres

20.3 metres

80-0kmph

34.93 metres

37.92 metres

The 2kg weight difference between the Race XP and the NTorq 125 BS6 improves the former’s braking distance by 2 metres in the 60-0kmph sprint, while coming to a stop from 80kmph, the distance widens by 3 metres, all while using the same braking hardware.

Verdict:

Price

Rs 84,025

Rs 80,320 (Race Edition)

Rs 77,320 (Disc)

The TVS NTorq 125 Race XP isn’t just another addition to the long list of variants of the scooter. All the changes over the standard scooter make it a better performer in almost every aspect over the standard NTorq 125 BS6. And for Rs 4,000 over the Race Edition, isn’t this a sweet deal?
