Modified On Apr 30, 2021 05:55 PM By Manaal Mahatme for TVS Jupiter

The Hosur-based manufacturer has registered a 114 percent growth in domestic sales

TVS Motor Company concluded the previous financial year with an astounding 114.82 percent Year-on-Year (YoY) growth in domestic sales. The Hosur-based manufacturer sold over 2 lakh two-wheelers in March 2021 compared to 94,103 units in the same month last year.

Here’s a look at how TVS’s various offerings fared domestically in March 2021 over March 2020:

The biggest contributing factor to the massive YoY growth is the nationwide lockdown that was imposed last year, resulting in a decline of over 60 percent in the domestic sales in March 2020.

No prizes for guessing TVS’s highest-selling model. Of course, it is the TVS Jupiter. Over 57,000 units of the 110cc scooter were sold last month. In fact, TVS also launched a new variant of the scooter with an idling-stop system in February, which has heightened the scooter’s appeal.

The TVS XL continues to be a trusty choice for people looking for a utility moped with decent load-bearing capacity. In March 2021, this moped made up for around 22 percent of TVS’s total domestic sales.

The iQube Electric has seen the highest year-on-year growth in March 2021. Last year, shortly after its launch, the pandemic hit, spelling doom for the entire automotive industry. This scooter was particularly affected as it was available in just one city. This year, however, the e-scooter was launched in Delhi, which is likely to have influenced the sales number.

The Apache family hasn’t seen growth as much as the other TVS products. Still, the company has constantly been updating the bikes, even introducing the Apache RTR 200 4V with preload-adjustable forks and riding modes. More recently, even the 160 4V was updated, and TVS managed to squeeze more performance from the same engine.

Exactly after a year, manufacturers and customers are again bearing the brunt of the second wave of the virus. TVS has delayed the launch of the 2021 Apache RR 310, while Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India have already shut production.
