Upcoming Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Spied Testing
The electric scooter could finally get a lot more affordable
Between all the bike spy shots that we see every week, a spy shot of an upcoming electric scooter has now surfaced online and that is none other than the Bajaj Chetak. And interestingly, this had a hub motor, something we’ve earlier seen on electric scooters like the TVS iQube.
But why is a hub motor so important? The main reason is that it will help Bajaj cut costs. Also, the simpler mechanism of a hub motor means Bajaj could give this Chetak twin shocks at the rear rather than the monoshock it currently has. Besides, Bajaj might even give the updated scooter a smaller battery pack to further save costs, given that the Chetak’s cost is really the biggest chink in its armour. The Chetak currently costs Rs 1,22,723 (on-road Bengaluru), but with these bits, Bajaj could very well bring its price down to around the Rs 1 lakh mark.

And lastly, with the slightly lower pricing, the Bajaj Chetak will be better equipped to rival the likes of the Ola S1 Air, Ather 450S and the TVS iQube.
