Updated Ather 450X And 450 Plus To Offer Higher Range
The upcoming upgrades for 450 Plus and 450X will result in the e-scooters offering more range and performance
(UPDATE: Ather has launched the updated 450X and 450 Plus in India. Full details in our launch story)
A leaked type approval document has revealed that Ather is working on an update for its popular 450 range of e-scooters – the 450 Plus and the 450X. One of these updates is a larger battery pack, thus promising more range.
As per the type approval document, the new Ather 450 Plus would offer a claimed range of 108km, while the current model has a claimed range of 100km. Similarly the upgraded Ather 450X would come with a claimed range of 146km, which is much higher than its current range of 116km. These range claims are in ‘Eco’ mode.
This increase in range is thanks to a larger battery pack. The capacity of the battery pack in the current Ather 450X is rated at 2.9kWh, whereas, according to the leaked document, the capacity of the updated battery pack will be 3.66kWh, which is a notable jump.
Other updates include a more powerful motor. The existing motor for both variants is rated for a nominal output of 3.3kW, while peak output is 5.4kW for the 450 Plus and 6kW for the 450X. The new motor for both variants is rated at a nominal output of 3.1kW nominal output while having a peak output of 5.8 kW for the 450 Plus and 6.4kW for the 450X. While more peak power is available, the nominal power output figure has gone down slightly.
Owing to the larger battery pack, the dimensions of the upcoming scooter are also slightly increased as the wheelbase, height and length of the scooter have increased by 9mm, 11mm and 25mm, respectively. What remains to be seen though is whether the design of the upcoming Ather scooter changes.
Considering that Ola recently released the MoveOS 2.0 OTA update for its S1 Pro electric scooter, and with TVS too recently launching two new variants of their iQube electric scooter, Ather had its work cut out to refresh its offerings in time.
