Yamaha Force 2.0 Maxi-style Scooter Launched, Gets Aerox 155’s Engine

For 2021, Yamaha has updated the scooter to version 2.0, armed with a host of aesthetic and mechanical changes

The Yamaha Force 2.0 is priced at an equivalent of Rs 2.66 lakh. Comes with an updated liquid-cooled engine with traction control, Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), and silent starter. Compared to its predecessor, it gets a lighter frame and a redesigned bodywork. Yamaha is unlikely to launch the scooter in India as the domestic market already has the Yamaha Aerox 155.

Yamaha has launched the Force 2.0 in Taiwan, the successor to the Force maxi-style scooter. The new scooter is priced at TWD 99,000, which translates to around Rs 2.66 lakh. In comparison, the previous-gen Force was launched in Taiwan at an equivalent of Rs 3.34 lakh. Interestingly, Yamaha offers both versions of the scooter in the country as of now.

For the Version 2.0, Yamaha has made several changes to this maxi-style scooter. The bodywork now looks much sleeker thanks to the redesigned apron. The side panels look much sportier with the signature ‘A’ shaped element. The twin halogen headlights look sleeker, and the batarang-like tail lamp has been replaced with a simpler straightline unit. It also gets a redesigned 5.1-inch boxy LCD instrument cluster. There’s no smartphone connectivity, though.

More importantly, Yamaha has employed an updated 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. It now gets Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology, traction control system, and even a silent starter. While Yamaha hasn’t revealed the power figures, we reckon it makes as much as the India-spec Yamaha Aerox 155, which produces 15PS and 13.9Nm. In addition to the new tech, the engine also seems to be more efficient than its predecessor, offering a claimed mileage of 44.9kmpl as opposed to 36.8kmpl in the older model.

The new engine also sits inside a new chassis, claimed to be 27 percent lighter than before. It also does away with a rear monoshock setup, and uses a twin preload-adjustable suspension layout instead. The front end continues with a telescopic fork. Thanks to the new frame, the overall wheelbase has gone down from 1405mm to 1340mm. Yamaha has also revised the single-piece seat with a flatter but taller unit. It’s now 815mm tall as opposed to the 805mm unit in its predecessor. 

Brakes and tyres are the same as before, though. The scooter rolls on 13-inch wheels wrapped with 120-section front and 130-section rear Maxxis tyres, and are anchored by a 267mm front and a 230mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. 

The scooter is exclusive to the Taiwanese market, so Yamaha is unlikely to bring this one to our shores. The Japanese company already offers the much sportier Aerox 155, launched recently at Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in the country.
