Is Triumph Owned By Bajaj?
Hailing from the United Kingdom, Triumph began its operations under a fully-owned subsidiary of the parent company, Triumph Motorcycles Limited. However, in 2020, Bajaj Auto and Triumph signed an agreement, and under this partnership, it was decided that the two brands would co-develop new engines and vehicles in the mid-capacity range (200cc to 750cc).
In early 2023, Bajaj Auto took over the sales and service operations of Triumph in India as a part of the strategic partnership between the two brands established in 2020. All the Indian operations of Triumph now come under Bajaj Auto's Probiking business for performance-oriented motorcycles and other products. That said, Triumph still sells its bikes via dedicated Triumph showrooms across the country.
After Bajaj Auto took over Triumph's Indian operations, the first breakthrough product from the alliance came in the latter half of 2023 in the form of the all-new Speed 400, followed by the Scrambler 400. Both these motorcycles are ground-up products co-developed by Bajaj Auto and Triumph, and are entirely made in India for both local markets and global exports.
How To Pronounce Triumph?
Triumph is an English word, the pronunciation of which goes as "try-umph". It means "victory" in English. Originally from England, Triumph Motorcycles came into existence in 1983, when its then CEO John Bloor invested and rebuilt Triumph Engineering into Triumph Motorcycles Ltd after the former went into receivership. Over the years, Triumph has become one of the most prominent motorcycle brands in Europe, America, and Asia.
Where Is The Triumph Factory?
In 2014, Triumph announced its official debut in the Indian two-wheeler market, with an extensive model lineup comprising the best-selling Triumph bikes like Bonneville, Thruxton 900, Thunderbird, Rocket III, Daytona 675, Street Triple 675, Speed Triple 1050, Tiger 800 and Tiger Explorer 1200. All these models were announced as direct imports from Thailand, with their sales commencing through a limited dealer network.
In the following years, Triumph introduced newer models from its global lineup, including the Street Triple 765, Tiger 900, all-new Rocket III, Trident 660, Tiger Sport 660 and the new 900cc and 1200cc Bonneville models.
Triumph’s intent towards the Indian two-wheeler market became stronger with the launch of the all-new Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X in 2023, the first made in India single-cylinder Triumph bikes, made in India, for the world.
Currently, Triumph manufactures the single-cylinder motorcycles – Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X – in Pune, Maharashtra, in collaboration with Bajaj Auto. However, all the other motorcycles from Triumph’s lineup are brought to India through the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route from Thailand, where Triumph has one of the biggest production facilities. Since the arrival of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, Triumph has been on an expansion spree for its dealer network, with around 56 dealerships in 38 cities across India (and counting).
What Are The Best Triumph Bikes In India?
Speed 400: The Triumph Speed 400 is the brand’s first made-in-India motorcycle, and is also their first modern single-cylinder bike. It is also the cheapest Triumph bike in India.
Scrambler 400 X: Basically a more rugged version of the Speed 400, the Scrambler 400 X is probably one of the best do-it-all motorcycles in India - whether you're riding in the city, highway, winding mountain roads or even some light trails.
