Sport Expert Review
Overview
The TVS Sport is the most affordable TVS bike in India. It is positioned below other 110cc commuter motorcycles from TVS, such as the TVS Radeon and the premium TVS Star City Plus.
The TVS Sport is available in two variants – ES and ELS, with prices starting from Rs 59,431 (ex-showroom Delhi). Here's everything you need to know about the 110cc TVS bike:
Design
The TVS Sport remains more or less unchanged compared to the original TVS Star Sport, which debuted in 2007. It still looks fairly sporty for a commuter bike, thanks to the sharp looking headlight cowl, sleek fuel tank, and angular elements on the side panels.
The Sport also has clear-lens halogen turn indicators and a trapezoidal tail lamp. Both variants feature an all-black theme for the five-spoke alloy wheels and engine, along with a chrome heat shield over their exhausts.
Compared to the base-spec ES variant, which has no graphics, the ELS variant looks more eye-catching with relatively more attractive dual-tone colour schemes and body graphics on the headlamp cowl, fuel tank and side body panels. The TVS Sport also has a long, comfortable seat with a small single-piece aluminium grab rail for the pillion rider.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The latest version of the TVS Sport is powered by the same single-cylinder, air-cooled, 109.7cc engine which powers the other 110cc commuter bikes from TVS, the Radeon and Star City Plus. The engine is paired with a 4-speed transmission and claims 8.19PS @7350 rpm and 8.7Nm @4500 rpm. The overall performance is adequate for a 110cc commuter bike that's primarily meant to be ridden in the city. It is also fuel efficient, and the claimed top speed is 90kmph. Thankfully, both variants come with a kick start lever, as well as an electric starter.
Handling & Ride Quality
The TVS Sport comes with a telescopic fork and twin rear shock absorbers with a five-step preload adjustability. They are tuned to offer a comfortable ride quality on bad roads, and can absorb bumps well. Equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, the TVS Sport has a 2.75-inch tyre at the front and a 3.00-inch tyre at the rear. These tyres are grippy enough for everyday commutes. The TVS Sport has a 130mm drum brake for the front wheel and a 110mm drum brake for the rear wheel. An optional front disc could have been provided for better braking performance. At 175mm, the ground clearance is good enough for most of our roads.
Comfort
Apart from the TVS Sport's soft suspension setup, the seat is also well cushioned. These along with the upright riding posture (thanks to the easy-to-reach handlebars), make daily commutes effortless. At 112kg, the bike is also fairly light, and can be easily moved around in tight spaces.
Features
Being an affordable, entry-level motorcycle, the TVS Sport comes only with essential features. The Sport has an electric starter and alloy wheels, which are standard in both variants, as well as an all-analogue instrument console. This asymmetric console has a speedometer and odometer in its left housing and a fuel gauge and basic warning lights in its right housing. The bike also comes with an “Econometer,” which lights up either the Eco light or power light, depending on how you ride.
Should you buy
For a buyer looking for a basic commuter motorcycle with good comfort and mileage for their daily commuting in the city, the TVS Sport makes a lot of sense. The TVS Sport looks good, is lightweight, while its 110cc engine is reliable and keeps the running costs minimal.
