Is the Yamaha MT15 a comfortable bike?
The Yamaha MT15 has a more upright posture as compared to the R15, which has an aggressive, committed riding position. The MT15’s footpegs are rear set, which means your feet will be positioned under your thighs. That said, the wide handlebar with its higher positioning allows for a more upright posture. The seat height of 810mm seems tall on paper but with a tapering end and the bike’s narrow profile, even shorter riders won’t have an issue getting on and off the bike. The rider’s portion of the seat is quite spacious. However, the rear half of the seat is narrow, and the pillion might face some discomfort over long distances. However for short, city rides, it won’t be an issue.
Does the Yamaha MT15 look good?
The Yamaha MT15 looks quite sporty and aggressive, especially with its samurai-like front-end design. The sharp lines on the petrol tank coupled with the tank extensions give it a muscular appearance. The golden inverted fork makes the bike look quite premium too. The mid-level DLX variants have coloured wheels that add to the sporty appeal of the bike.
Is the Yamaha MT15 a fast bike?
Yamaha MT15 is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 18.4PS and 14.1Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch, and a bi-directional quickshifter. In our real-world tests, the MT15 accelerated from 0 to 100kmph in 14.28 seconds, which is decently quick, and should help you get off the line quickly.
Does the MT15 have low maintenance?
Yamaha is known to have a decent service experience in India. While spare parts availability is not an issue in most cases, service costs are on a slightly higher side, though not very expensive. They are not as cheap as average commuter bikes, but definitely not as expensive as some premium bikes.
What is the mileage of the Yamaha MT15?
When we tested the Yamaha MT15, it returned a mileage of 56.87kmpl in the city and 47.94kmpl on the highway, which is at par with the other bikes in the segment.
What are the features of the Yamaha MT15?
The Yamaha MT15 is now decently feature packed. It has LED headlight, tail light, and turn indicators. The latter only on the top and mid variants, which also get Bluetooth connectivity. There’s a digital instrument cluster with a clean layout that is easy to read. Other features on the MT15 are traction control, two modes for the instrument cluster: track & street, and a quickshifter for upshifts only. Yamaha also offers optional accessories that add to the utility of the bike.
Is the Yamaha MT15 worth buying?
The Yamaha MT15 is a sporty, naked motorcycle with good performance. It’s easy to ride as well. It now has an extensive list of features that increase its value for money. If you are in the market for a bike that looks sharp, is fast, and is easy to ride everyday, the MT15 makes for a strong case.
What are the alternatives to the Yamaha MT15?
The KTM 125 Duke is the closest rival to the MT15, especially in terms of price. It looks sharp, and handles well too. You can also check out the Honda Hornet 2.0, Bajaj Pulsar NS200, and the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. If you want an off-road bike for a similar price, the Hero Xpulse 200 4V is a great alternative.

Yamaha MT 15 Review
Overview
The Yamaha MT-15 V2 is a roadster version of the popular Yamaha R15 model. It has a striking design and shares its mechanicals and the engine with the R15. With premium hardware and tech, the MT-15 V2 is among the most premium and sportiest motorcycles in the 150-160cc category.
Design
The Yamaha MT-15 V2 has a sporty design that reminds one of the high-capacity motorcycles in Yamaha’s global MT range, such as MT-07 and MT-09. Its bikini fairing has a futuristic design, with an LED projector flanked by twin LED daytime running lights.
The Yamaha MT-15 V2's large and muscular fuel tank with extensions adds to its sporty looks. The compact rear section of the motorcycle sports a small LED tail light, a long number plate holder, and a tyre hugger. However, although practical, the grab rail for the pillion rider looks awkward and out of place.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
At the heart of the Yamaha MT-15 V2 is the tried-and-tested 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine shared with the R15 V4.0. This high-performance engine produces 18.4PS at10,000rpm and 14.1Nm at 7500rpm. It has a six-speed gearbox equipped with a slip-and-assist clutch for smooth gear transitions.
The Yamaha MT-15 V2 also has Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology for efficient performance across varied speeds. The variable valve lift and timing helps the bike achieve good acceleration even at lower rpm levels. However, we noticed a slight drop in acceleration around 5500 rpm.
Above 7000rpm, the engine starts to pull hard thanks to the VVA. The engine is highly tractable, making it effortless to maintain speeds as low as 24kmph even while in 6th gear.
The liquid-cooled engine shows impressive performance. In terms of in-gear roll-on acceleration, the bike outpaces the R15. Although there are some vibrations, they are minimal and only become noticeable when riding in the higher RPM range.
Fuel efficiency is a prime factor for many riders, and the MT-15 V2 doesn't disappoint. It delivers a city mileage of 56.87kmpl and 47.94kmpl on the highways.
Handling & Ride Quality
The low kerb weight of 141kg helps the MT-15 change direction quickly, which makes it ideal for city traffic and everyday urban commutes. The suspension setup is on the firmer side and this helps keep the bike stable at higher speeds and also inspires confidence when cornering. But the same stiff suspension setup makes it really hard to ride on bad patches and poor roads. Even going over small potholes feels annoying. The overall ride quality is great only on well-paved roads, but once the roads get bad, the rider will struggle.
The brakes have now improved as compared to the previous version. The addition of dual-channel ABS as standard is a welcome feature. It provides better braking control and offers an extra layer of safety by not letting the bike skid when brakes are applied on slippery roads.
Comfort
The Yamaha MT-15 V2 has a much more upright and comfortable riding position compared to the R15. While the seat appears well-padded, it has mildly harder cushioning, which might cause discomfort during long rides. However, it still serves well for commuting within the city.
Features
The MT-15 V2 has an LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. Riders can receive call and email alerts and track service reminders, the last parked location, average mileage, and post-ride stats through the Yamaha Y-connect smartphone app. Unfortunately, turn-by-turn navigation isn't available.
Should you buy
If you are looking for an urban-oriented, sporty naked motorcycle with good performance and easy handling, the Yamaha MT-15 V2 is worth considering. It might not offer an array of features in comparison to 150-160cc motorcycles.
However, with its premium technology like VVA, liquid-cooled engine, and the Deltabox frame, the MT-15 V2 promises impressive performance and handling.
