14 February 2018: Yamaha R3 is an exciting superbike from the fleet of the Japanese bike manufacturer. The new YZF R3 is a lightweight superbike that packs a BS-IV compliant 321cc parallel-twin engine, which churns out a max power of 42hp at 10,750rpm and 29.6Nm of peak torque at 9,000rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The bike gets dual-channel ABS and fresh set of Metzeler M5 tyres. Rest all components on the bike are same including the instrument cluster, suspension assembly of 41mm Kayaba front forks and preload-adjustable rear shock absorbers, 17-inch alloy wheels that are shod with 110/70-R17 and 140/70 R17 section tyres at the front and at the rear respectively. On the braking front, the front alloy is equipped with 298mm disc while the rear comes with 220mm disc brake.  Build on the Diamond frame, the R3’s kerb weight is 173kg. The new YZF R3 is available in two colour choices- Magma Black and Racing Blue. The Yamaha R3 has been priced at INR 3.48 Lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). In the Indian market, it locks horns with Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the KTM RC390.

Overview

The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer, Yamaha cater the speed freaks of the country with the launch of its powerful 300cc bike named as “Yamaha YZF-R3”. Since its inception, the market of entry-level performance bike saw a revolution. It has been launched at Buddh International Circuit (BIC) on 11th August 2015 and imported via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route in India.

Powering the bike is 321cc, in-line twin cylinder, a liquid-cooled motor that is linked to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission system. The bike is crafted on a diamond frame and it runs on 110/70-17M/C 54H front & 140/70-17M/C 66H rear tubeless tyres. It lacks the ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) in domestic version.

The front profile of the bike receives a signature YZF series twin sporty headlamps. The headlamp of the bike is sharp and looks aggressive that fits pretty well with the sporty silhouette. It comes with a step-up, sporty split seat that further enhances the overall aesthetics of the beast. Its instrument cluster is easy to read and informative. Talking about the rear, the machine features a sharp tail lamp with clear lens turning indicators.

Design

Yamaha YZF R3 has an awesome front fascia that is seen by a YZF series signature twin headlights that provide a clear and steady beam of light. The fuel tank of the bike is sharply crafted that gives a sound riding stance as well as enhance the beauty of the beast. Furthermore, it features a well-padded and thick-cushioned split seat that provide a high-end comfort level to the rider as well as pillion. Besides this, it has been also loaded with sporty trimmed exhaust at the side that gives a high-end feel. Coming to the rear, the machine comes with an acute tail lamp section along with the clear lens turn indicators. The rear fender is long and sharp that ends up just in height with the exhaust system.

It has an overall body dimension of 2090 mm in length, 720 mm in width, 1135 mm in height that give it a respectable public appearance. It has a wheelbase of 1380 mm that offer a keen and agile handling while on the go. The minimum ground clearance of 160mm gives a stability around the corners. Talking about the instrumentation, it is easy to read and informative that display the information about an analogue tachometer, digital speedometer, trip meter, odometer, clock and fuel gauge. Apart from this, the bike has been also fitted with a huge fuel tank of 14-liter capacity. The total kerb weight is 169 kgs that make it an easy to ride and handy sporty motorcycle.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

Yamaha YZF R3 is technically a 321cc sports bike that is built with 2-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valves, 4-stroke engine. The powerful mill is coupled to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission and uses wet multiplate clutch assembly to transmits the power to the rear wheels. The super refine motor is capable enough to develop a maximum power of 41.4 bhp at 10750 rpm along with a peak torque of 29.6 Nm at 9000 rpm. The liquid-cooled, fuel injected engine has a compression ratio of 11.2: 1 and a power oriented bore x stroke ratio of 68 mm x 44.1 mm. For the ease of the rider, the company also configured the bike with an electric start and also provide an engine kill switch. With this hardware configuration, the beast can sprint 0-60 kmph in just 2.89 seconds and can hit a top speed of 188 kmph.

Handling & Ride Quality

Yamaha YZF R-3 rides on 110/70-17M/C 54H front and 140/70-17M/C 66H rear sticky tubeless tyres that are further fitted over an elegant black alloy wheels. These tubeless tyres have a good adhesion on the terrains, hence makes the ride smooth. The beast comes to halt with the help of 298mm hydraulic disc brake at the front and 220mm hydraulic disc brake at the rear. The suspension system of the bike is comprises of a telescopic fork at the front and swingarm mono shock absorber at the rear, hence provide a hassle-free and convenient ride.

Features

Yamaha YZF R3 has a powerful twin headlight that incorporates Twin 55 watt halogen bulbs and provide a steady beam of light at the night even on the low rpm conditions. The tubeless tyres don’t deflate immediately in case of a puncture and reduce the chance of any mishaps, hence gives another benefit to the rider. The bike is bolted on a diamond frame that has a superb stability at high speeds and employs the least possible vibrations to the rider’s body.
