The new 110cc Hero Maestro Edge brings a sportier element to the Maestro nameplate. The original Maestro was one of Hero’s more successful attempts at making a mark in India’s emerging scooter market. With the Maestro Edge, Hero has upped the ante by offering a handful of features and cosmetic improvements that include a new set of LED tail lamps, stylish headlamps and a 3D emblem on the scooter’s side panels. The scooter also gets an eye-catching semi-digital instrument console that includes a very useful service reminder.
The Maestro Edge uses a new 110.9cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that churns out 8.1PS of power and 8.7Nm of torque. According to Hero, the scooter is capable of delivering a fuel economy of 53kmpl. Hero offers the Maestro Edge in two variants, viz. the LX and the VX. The Maestro Edge gets a total of nine colour options including Shooting Night Star, Techno Blue, Matte Vernier Grey, Matte Blue, Panther Black, Pearl Silver White, Candy Blazing Red, Sporty Matte Grey & Red and Active Matte Grey & Blue.
The Hero Maestro Edge’s dual-tone colour variant costs Rs 1,400 more than the single-tone option that retails at a price of Rs 50,900 (ex-showroom Delhi). Hero does not offer a disc brake option as of yet on the scooter. However, it does get Hero’s Integrated Braking System (IBS), which redistributes braking force on both the wheels. The Hero Maestro Edge competes with the Mahindra Gusto, the Yamaha Ray Z, the TVS Jupiter, TVS Wego and the bestselling Honda Activa 5G.

Maestro Edge BS4 Expert Review
Overview
By launching the Maestro Edge, Hero aimed to capitalise on the sales momentum of the original Maestro. Compared to the Maestro, the Maestro Edge has a more contemporary design and improved performance. Compared to the Maestro, the Maestro Edge comes with additional features like an attractive headlamp unit, a funky new 3D emblem and sharply-done LED tail lamps.
The improvements are not just cosmetic as Hero has also bundled in useful features like a mobile charging port, a boot light and an external fuel filler cap with the Maestro Edge. The scooter’s semi-digital instrument console also displays a host of information including a service due indicator and a side stand indicator. The Hero Maestro Edge also scores high on safety as it gets an anti-theft engine immobilizer system.
Powering this stylish scooter is a tried-and-tested 110.9cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 8.11PS of power and 8.7Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a variomatic drive that offers minimal lag in power transmission. Braking duties are handled by drum brakes at the front and rear that bring the Maestro Edge to a halt without drama. The scooter also gets Hero’s Integrated Braking System (IBS), which redistributes braking force to both wheels.
The suspension setup that Hero has chosen for the Maestro Edge is a similarly tried-and-tested unit. The front is equipped with telescopic shock absorbers while the rear features a spring loaded hydraulic damper.
Its stylish appearance is a major part of the Maestro Edge’s appeal and Hero has left no stone unturned in ensuring the scooter gets an eclectic choice of colours. Buyers can choose from a total of seven single-tone shade, viz. Techno Blue, Panther Black, Pearl Silver White, Shooting Night Star, Matte Blue, Matte Vernier Grey, and Candy Blazing Red.
Hero further offers a handful of dual-tone colour options (Sporty Matte Grey & Red, and Active Matte Grey & Blue) for a premium of just Rs 1,400 over the standard price of Rs 50,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Hero Maestro Edge is part of the highly competitive 110cc scooter segment where its rivals include the Honda Activa 5G, the Yamaha Ray Z, the TVS Jupiter and the Mahindra Gusto.
Design
While the Maestro came across as a chic and sophisticated looking scooter, the Maestro Edge carries loads of style. The 110cc scooter comes with aerodynamic sidelines, a sharp headlamp assembly and blacked-out alloy wheels. It looks especially elegant from the side, thanks to the high-quality paint finish and embossed 3D emblem under the seat.
The rear end of the scooter is dominated by stylish new LED tail lamps. Hero has brought form as well as function to the Maestro Edge’s instrument console. The semi-digital unit has an integrated service reminder and a side stand indicator. The scooter also gets convenient features like an integrated mobile charging point, a smart light for the boot space and an external fuel filler cap.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The engineers at Hero have worked meticulously on the power unit of the new scooter, which is the 110.9cc air-cooled, 4-stroke single cylinder OHC (Overhead Camshaft) engine. This mill is calibrated well to churn a peak power output of 8bhp @ 7500rpm in collaboration with a capable torque output of 8.7Nm @ 5500rpm. The claimed mileage for the Maestro Edge is 53kmpl and the engine transmits power to the variomatic drive of the scooter through the automatic clutch assembly.
Handling & Ride Quality
The Hero Maestro Edge features tubeless 90/100-10 rear tyres and slightly larger 90/90-12 front tyres. This tyre combination offers good traction and adds to the scooter’s stable handling. Braking duties are handled by 130mm drum brake units at both ends. While a disc brake option is sorely missed, Hero does offer the scooter with Integrated Braking System (IBS).
The Maestro Edge’s suspension setup consists of telescopic forks at the front and spring loaded hydraulic dampers at the rear. This setup gives the scooter a pliant ride and reasonably good handling in the city.
Features
The Hero Maestro Edge is equipped with an Integrated Braking System (IBS), which is simply another name for a combined braking mechanism. As apparent from the name, both the front and rear brakes are engaged simultaneously even if you apply only the rear brake. With IBS, Hero has also made the Maestro Edge compliant with the upcoming safety regulations that mandate every two-wheeler below 125cc to have a combined braking system.
