15 February 2018: Indian Chief is a classic cruiser with all the basics covered. It comes with a purposeful design, lightweight frame, wide and comfortable seat and internally wired handlebars which are dipped in chrome for the premium look. Other feature bits include cruise control, ABS, keyless ignition, 9 LED telltale indicators, tank mounted odometer, speedometer and fuel gauge. The readouts provide essential information to the rider including average fuel economy, fuel range, gear position display, low engine oil pressure, low fuel LED indicator and more. The bike houses a Thunder Stroke III with a fuel injection 1811cc engine that churns out 150Nm of peak torque at 2,900rpm. On the suspension front, it has a conventional telescopic front fork and single shock absorber at the rear. It sports dual 300mm disc at the front and a 300mm single disc at the rear. There are four variants available- Indian Chief, Indian Chief Dark Horse, Indian Chief Classic and Indian Chief Vintage. Apart from standard features, the Vintage gets dual-tone colour scheme, genuine leather seat and saddlebags and Lexan windshield. The Chief comes in single Steel Gray shade while the Dark Horse is on offer in Thunder Black Smoke colour tone. The Classic gets Burgundy Metallic shade and the Vintage comes in four different colour tones including Thunder Black, Willow Green over Ivory Cream, Sky Blue over Pearl White and Star Silver over Thunder Black. The Indian Chief gets a starting price tag of Rs <onroadprice> (On road, <city>).

Overview
Indian Motorcycles - The iconic American motorcycle manufacturer launched their exotic cruiser bike in the country few months back christened as Indian Chief Dark Horse.The range consists of four exclusive models and out of these, Indian Chief Dark Horse is one of the most affordable bike in this range. Beside this, the other three cruisers are christened as Indian Chief Classic, Chief Vintage and Chieftain.
Mechanically, the giants is propelled by the same Thunder-Stroke 111, 1,811cc, air-cooled, V-twin engine which used to drive its siblings, the Chief range. The powerful motor manages to push out a peak torque of 161.61Nm at 3,000rpm. The motorcycle gets its revs from a six-speed gearbox which belt drives the rear wheels. The ignition is the closed loop fuel injection system. This sinister machine moves on Dunlop American Elite 3 - front 130/90B16 73H and rear 180/65 B16 81H coupled with 119mm telescopic forks at the front and 94mm single shock with mechanical preload suspension at the rear respectively. The braking department is headed by 300mm four-piston calliper dual discs at the front and 300mm two-piston calliper at the rear, which is further blessed with an Anti-Lock Braking system (ABS). The giant sports a huge fuel tank of 20.8 liters.
The standard equipments of Indian Chief Dark Horse now come with many promising accessions. An electronic cruise control is employed to ensure safer riding experience, including a keyless ignition and a two-year unlimited-mileage factory warranty. Unlike the conventional Chief motorcycles, the Dark Horse loses on oil-cooler, analogue fuel gauge and triple pod headlights. The instrument cluster is mounted impressively on the fuel tank which is loaded with plenty of informative elements such as digital speedometer, odometer, electronic fuel gauge, low fuel LED indicator, dual trip meters, digital tachometer, ambient air temperature, fuel range, average fuel economy, battery voltage, gear position display, clock, vehicle trouble code read out, heated grip level (if heated grips installed) and a low engine oil pressure indicator.
Indian Chief Dark Horse is a motorcycle for those who are ever ready to play with the visuals of the motorbike. The icon comes with around 40 customization options, which enables the rider to mould this machine into his desired masterpiece. With end to end purely black theme, Indian Chief Dark Horse sports a split dual-exhaust system with cross-over. The mighty silencer assures the road to witness Dark Horse’s true exhaust note. With a mission to dig its roots in India, Indian motorcycles will be importing their black beast via CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.
Design
Indian Chief range offers a pure motorcycling delight as it comes with one of the best body aesthetics one can ever see in a high-end cruiser bike. All the four machines share some of the body detailings with each other yet are completely different in one way or the other. Indian Chieftain is the most extravagant bike in the lineup and comes with a quite impressive body design. The front body profile receives a giant front fairing with a bright rounded headlight and twin fog lamps. The chromed rear view mirrors do add a lot of character to the bike and looks premium. The fuel tank is chiseled nicely with some impressive curvy detailings here and there. The entire range has been equipped with a sound braking system that comprises of dual 300mm disc brakes with four piston callipers upfront and a single 300mm disc brake with twin piston calliper at the rear along with a high-performance ABS unit. To avail a comfortable and stress free ride, the manufacturer has equipped the bike with durable telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear end.
The instrumentation of the bike is done impressively that displays plenty of information and comprises of an analogue speedometer, tachometer, twin digital tripmeters, fuel gauge and indicator for low pressure. Besides this, the bike features an advanced cruise control system that automatically controls the speed of the vehicle as set by the rider. Indian Chieftain measures 2,571mm x 1,022mm x 1,529mm (LxWxH) making it one of the most giant cruiser motorcycles currently on sale in India right now. It has a wheelbase of 1,669mm that gives it a good handling in all conditions. Besides this, a minimum ground clearance of 140mm ensures superior stability around the corners. Indian Chieftain has been assisted with a massive fuel tank that can store 20.8 liter of fuel to support long distance touring.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Indian Chief gets its power from a 1,811cc, Thunder-Stroke 111 engine that comes mated to a six-speed gearbox setup. The mill cranks out an earth shattering torque of 161.61Nm at 3,000rpm. The engine has been assisted with a closed loop fuel injection system that ensures a superior throttle response with an uninterrupted power delivery. The mill has a compression ratio of 9.5:1 and comes with a torque oriented bore x stroke ratio of 101mm x 113mm.
Handling & Ride Quality
Indian Chief runs on grippy and durable Dunlop American Elite 130/90B16 67H front and Dunlop American Elite 180/65B16 81H rear tyres mounted over durable and lightweight wheels for enhanced riding experience. The bike comes to standstill with the help of dual 300mm disc brakes with four piston callipers at the front and a single 300mm disc brake with twin piston calliper at the rear. The braking gets even more precise and responsive with a high-performance ABS added to the package. Indian Chief receives a sound suspension system that comprises of durable telescopic forks upfront and a monoshock at the rear.
