KTM 390 Duke (2017-2023) Summary
KTM has launched its 2023 lineup with OBD-2 compliance and updated prices. Click here to check in detail.
The 390 Duke is a top-spec naked from KTM which is currently sold in India and it still holds the crown for being the most powerful motorcycle in its segment. Here’s how it compares to its direct rival, the upcoming Yamaha MT-03.
Price:
The KTM 390 Duke is available in a single variant which comes with a price tag of Rs 2,97,475 (ex-showroom Delhi) and comes in two colour options: Dark Galvano, and Liquid Metal.
Features:
The KTM 390 Duke is loaded with features and the motorcycle comes with all-LED lighting setup, a coloured TFT screen (with Bluetooth connectivity but no navigation), ride-by-wire throttle and switchable rear ABS (Supermoto mode). Moreover, the corner rocket also comes with a bi-directional quickshifter which works together with a slip-and-assist clutch.
Engine:
Powering the 390 Duke is an OBD-2 compliant, single-cylinder 373.27cc engine which produces 43.5PS and 37Nm. The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 13.4 litres.
Suspension & Brakes:
The KTM 390 Duke features a tubular split-steel trellis frame suspended on a 43mm open-cartridge USD fork and a 10-step preload-adjustable monoshock. Braking is handled by a 320mm disc up front and a 230mm disc at the rear (with ByBre callipers on both). The motorcycle rolls on 17-inch alloys which get Metzeler Sportec M5 tubeless tyres. The 390 Duke has a ground clearance of 151mm.
Rivals:
The 390 Duke still remains a good value-for-money proposition, despite its now-premium price tag. It competes with the likes of the QJ Motor SRK 400, BMW G 310 R, Bajaj Dominar 400 and the Honda CB300R. At a similar price point, you could go for the TVS Apache RR 310, Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, and the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650.

390 Duke (2017-2023) Expert Review
Overview
The last significant update that the KTM 390 Duke received was in 2017. It was a major overhaul in design as well as on the mechanical front, making the 390 Duke sharper and more engaging than ever before. For 2020 and beyond, the largest single-cylinder Duke in India has received a few updates and now meets BS6 emission norms. In doing so, KTM has had to up the asking price by nearly Rs 5,000, with the 390 Duke BS6 now retailing at Rs 2.52 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). So, what do you get for the extra money?
Engine, Mileage & Performance
With the step up to BS6 norms, most motorcycle manufacturers had to retune their existing engines to provide cleaner emissions. Hence, most motorcycles have seen a minor drop in performance with a slight increase in overall weight. Thankfully, KTM has managed to retain the same power output of 43.5PS and 37Nm as before. Kerb weight has gone up by 4kg, the 390 Duke BS6 now tipping the scales at 167kg.
The extra kilos it has put on is thanks to a revised exhaust which is now routed to run below the engine rather than around the cylinder head as before. As a result, ground clearance has gone down to 151mm, 24mm lower than its BS4 model. This is a cause of concern as you run a greater risk of scraping the exhaust now. KTM has provided a small protective bash plate of sorts which does extend a few millimetres lower than the exhaust pipe. How effective is the plate? We would only know once we get our hands on the bike for a road test.
