2014 Can-Am Spyder RT Gets More Power

The ultimate touring roadster machine Can-Am Spyder RT is getting a new Rotax 1330 ACE (Advanced Combustion Efficiency) high torque engine in its 2014 model. This is a liquid cooled, 1330cc, inline triple cylinder engine, featuring 84.074mm bore and 79.756mm stroke. This new powerful engine will replace the 998 Rotax V-twin engine from the Spyder RT variant, while 2014 Spyder ST and RS will have the same older engine.

The new Rotax 1330 ACE churns out a maximum power of 115hp at 7250rpm, which is 15% higher compare to the older 100hp engine. According to the company, it is a more of a touring purpose machine as it offers 40% more low-end torque and the value of peak torque goes to 130.16Nm at 5000rpm, around 20.5% higher than the 108Nm delivered by the existing machine. The new engine is also designed for low CO emissions to meet the EURO IV norms.

A new six- speed transmission replaces the older five- speed transmission, which will come in both manual and semi-automatic with one reverse gear. The new variant is equipped with ECO mode smart assist technology, which instructs the rider about gear shifting to achieve the maximum fuel efficiency. The mileage range has been said to be expanded to 250 miles per tank. Other updates include larger diameter SACHS shocks, doubling cooling capacity front radiators, reverse fan mode to blow hot air away from the rider, new 1200W alternator, new touring saddle outfitted with integrated lumbar supports, larger fuel cell with liters more fuel capacity, improved vehicle maintenance intervals etc. All the updates add only 57 pounds extra to the machine, and the new variant claims a dry weight of 1012 pounds.

The new Can-Am Spyder RT will be available in three packages named, Spyder RT, Spyder RT-S, and Spyder RT Limited. These variants diffe by some features like footboards, newly designed fender, push-button controls, adjustable rear suspension, GPS system, LED lights, exclusive wheels and colors. The 2014 base variant Spyder RT SM6 has been priced at $22,999, while the top end variant Spyder RT Limited SE6 priced at $30,499. The terms SM6 and SE6 stands for the six- speed manual transmission and six- speed semi automatic transmission respectively.
