Does the updated Suzuki V-Strom SX stand a chance?
The Suzuki V-Strom SX has been updated recently with a new OBD-2B compliant engine, and new colours. The bike goes up against the Yezdi Adventure in the entry-level ADV segment. In this image comparison, we will go over the differences between both the bikes. We will also be answering the question, which bike should you go for?
Design
When it comes to looks, both bikes take a radically different approach. The Suzuki V-Strom SX features a half fairing setup, with an integrated beak-like fender. The bike overall manages to give off a proper tourer look and feel.
The Yezdi Adventure on the other hand has a more rugged ADV look and feel. It features crash protectors on the tank, which also double up as luggage mounting points. The headlight grill, tall windscreen and upswept exhaust really does cement its off-roader credentials.
Performance
When it comes to performance, the Yezdi Adventure has a major advantage thanks to the larger engine. It is powered by a 334cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which outputs 29.6PS and 29.8Nm.
The Suzuki V-Strom SX is powered by a 249cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which outputs 26.5PS and 22.2Nm. Although the power and performance might feel low compared to the Yezdi, the Suzuki has a few tricks up its sleeve.
The engine manages to offer a very smooth and refined riding experience that is characteristic of Japanese motorcycles. It also has enough power and performance to handle longer tours on the highway.
Underpinnings
The Yezdi Adventure and Suzuki V-Strom SX feature suspension setup that comprises a telescopic fork and monoshock. But the Yezdi Adventure being a ADV, has longer travel suspension when compared to the V-Strom SX and also better ground clearance.
The Yezdi Adventure has a ground clearance of 220mm, the V-Strom for perspective has a ground clearance of 205mm. Now, coming to the wheels and tyres, the Yezdi Adventure has a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel setup, with tube tyres. This will help quite a bit when riding offroad, but punctures will be an issue.
The Suzuki V-Strom, on the other hand, has 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheel setup with tubeless tyres. This will help quite a bit when it comes to riding on the highways, and also makes it easier to deal with punctures.
Features
When looking at features, both the bikes offer smartphone connectivity and related bits like turn-by-turn navigation. But the Yezdi Adventure offers 3 riding modes: Road, Rain and Off-road.
The Off-road mode allows the rider to turn off ABS intervention at the rear as well. This will allow for controlled slides, which will make the bike a lot more capable offroad.
Verdict
The Suzuki V-Strom starts at a price of Rs 2,16,000 and the Yezdi Adventure starts at Rs 2,09,900 (Both ex-showroom). That said, both bikes are geared towards very different kind of riders, with the Suzuki V-Strom SX being a touring bike that can handle some light trails. Whereas the Yezdi Adventure is a more hardcore offroader in comparison.
From a value-for-money point of view, the Yezdi Adventure manages to offer a lot more performance and features, at a much lower starting price. So if you are someone who wants to get an ADV that you can take out off-roading then the Yezdi Adventure is the bike for you.
Now, if you are someone who just wants a simple tourer that you can take for longer trips down the highway then the Suzuki V-Strom SX might be worth considering. The refined engine and overall comfortable ergonomics will offer a really good riding experience.
