This is more of an update than an overhaul
- Yamaha has unveiled special liveries for the YZF-R1 and YZF-R7.
- The special-edition liveries mark 60 years of Yamaha’s road-racing heritage.
- For 2022, the track-focussed R1M now comes with updated Ohlins Electronic Racing Suspension.
Celebrating 60 years of its road-racing heritage, Yamaha has taken the wraps off the special-edition YZF-R1 and the recently introduced YZF-R7.
The new liveries take inspiration from Yamaha’s MotoGP testing livery, used by Cal Crutchlow during the pre-season tests. Most components are finished in white here, with Yamaha’s ‘speed block’ red graphics on the fairings, red front fender and yellow insert below the visor adding a subtle, sporty contrast. Rounding off the design are the golden alloy wheels.
For 2022, the R1 and R1M also get new standard colours. The former now comes in a new Icon Performance shade with a silver fuel tank and carbon fibre bodywork, while the latter gets a new dual-tone Icon Blue colour along with a dark matte blue option.
Additionally, the R1M’s Ohlin Electronic suspension has been updated to offer improved performance.

These aside, everything else -- on the R1 and R7 -- remains the same. The R1 continues with its 998cc inline-four engine putting out 200PS and 113Nm. On the other hand, the R7 uses a 689cc parallel-twin engine making 73PS and 67Nm. For more details about the R7, head here.
The special edition YZF-R1 and YZF-R7 are priced at Rs 13.3 lakh and Rs 6.82 lakh (converted from US dollars), respectively. This is only about Rs 35,000 more than the standard-colour bikes.
