The Pizza Delivery Corporations will be facing a new hurdle in the near future as according to new Central Motor Vehicles (CMV) rule only bikes with legally acceptable design can be used for delivering pizzas. wIn upcoming days, it might be possible that leading pizza delivery corporations have to face a new barrier in delivering pizzas. According to a , only those pizza delivery bikes are allowed to operate on the streets which have a legalized design. This amendment is being brought into force as many companies have started using has been brought in consideration due to rise in a number of regular bikes on the street used for delivering pizza and other items.
As of now, CMV Rules which were formulated in 1989 do not allow any change in the design of motorcycles for delivering pizzas or other goods and all bikes that are delivering pizzas and other stuff at present are plying illegally. So, to make it legal a primary notification specifying a standard shape of these bikes has been issued by the Central Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) .
The current rules under CMV do not allow any pizza delivery bikes to change their design but it is a contradictory view for Regional Transport Office (RTO) official. According to them, the delivery bikes are operating illegally on the streets of India.
According to K Ravinder Naik, Transport commissioner, the proposal of attaching a specific measurement box on delivery bikes was sent to the Central government on October 19, 2015. This specific design of bikes has been issued by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways which states that, “A box not exceeding 550mm in length, 510mm in width and 500mm in height may be fitted on a motorcycle for carriage of any items: provided also that no pillion rider shall be allowed on a motorcycle on which a box as specified has been fitted”.
Though it is still to be decided whether manufacturers should implement this specific design or these bikes will be altered later. As per the statement of Transport Commissioner, the design would be officially implemented after the rectification of amendment. The amendment also includes the speed limit of these vehicles, where the state will make assurance of enforcing the restriction on the speed of the bikes carrying goods. According to the notification from the Central government, which was released on 5th August 2014, the speed limit should be 80 kmph.
