Italian automaker- Piaggio has started the production of the Aprilia SR 150 in India. The scooter is being manufactured at the company’s Baramati plant and will be available for sale by August this year. This moto-scooter is expected to be priced at around Rs. 1 lac, making it one of the most expensive scooters in India.
The Aprilia SR 150 made its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo and has been designed for the country’s discerning young riders who are looking for the thrill of riding a sports bike along with the convenience of an automatic scooter for their daily commute. With its powerful 150cc engine, and other premium features including 14-inch big wheels, the SR 150 is set to create a new category in the country’s booming two-wheeler market.
The heart of the scooter is a 150cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder, air-cooled, 3-valve engine that powers the existing Vespa 150cc scooters in India. This powerful motor delivers 11.44bhp of power at 7,000rpm and a peak torque up to 11.5Nm at just 5,500rpm. The scooter is characterised by an aggressive sporty look and reflects the character of the Aprilia brand. Its sporty handlebar and headlight unit are neatly packaged in one unit and the large 14-inch black alloy are inspired from the Aprilia racing bikes.
