Ather 450X Gets New OTA Update In The Form Of Theft And Tow Detection

Apart from new features, the update also introduces a bunch of fixes for a glitch-free interface

Ather Energy has introduced a new Over-The-Air (OTA) update for its sporty electric scooter, the Ather 450X. Called the Atherstack Borg 10.2.0, the update introduces a new Theft and tow detection feature and auto-theme switching for the instrument cluster.

The theft and tow detection feature is activated seven minutes after the electric scooter is parked. The onboard sensors will detect any unwanted movement, including being moved around, shaken, tampered with, or lifted, and automatically alert the owner on the smartphone app. Please remember that this feature is exclusive only to the Connect Pro subscribers.

If you’re unaware of the subscription scheme, there are two plans on offer: Ather Connect Lite and Ather Connect Pro. The former packs only onboard navigation and Over-The-Air (OTA) updates for the dashboard. The latter additionally comes with ride statistics on the Ather app, remote location tracking, remote charge monitoring, and push location from the Ather app. The Connect Lite costs Rs 400 per quarter, whereas the Connect Pro scheme retails at Rs 700 per quarter.

Apart from this, the update also includes auto-theme switching, which changes the theme of the instrument cluster display from ‘dark’ mode to ‘light’ between 6am and 5:59pm, and back again to ‘dark’ from 6pm to 5:59am. This eliminates the need for a light sensor in the console.

Other bug fixes include a more accurate live push location, Bluetooth connectivity (that will be retained even when the instrument cluster restarts), display of Ather Grid charging sessions in the ride log, and added support to Ather Grid 2.0. Additionally, Ather has also updated the navigation to end the trip once the scooter is parked. The company has also fixed the disappearance of the network icon.

Looks like Ather is compartmentalising the updates on the 450X depending on the subscription plan. This helps the manufacturer to monetise its technical updates better. So if you have a more expensive connectivity plan, your scooter can get way smarter over a period of time, thanks to the OTA updates. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
