Ather Energy Releases Official Statement For The Scooter Fire
Claimed to be an isolated incident because of human error in manufacturing
After a fire broke out in one of the Ather 450X scooters in Bengaluru, the EV maker has released an official statement addressing the issue and disclosing details.
The wiring harness of the said scooter had caught fire, and Ather claims that it was an isolated event taken place due to a human error in the wiring harness assembly. One of the motor controller terminals had sparked as it wasn’t torqued properly. While the safety systems did kick in, cutting off the power flow and saving the BMS, battery and the dashboard, the wiring harness had already caught fire.

Ather has also assured the customers that this was not a thermal runaway event, and that the manufacturing operations and equipment have been upgraded to avoid such events in the future. The EV maker has also introduced a two-step verification process to ensure safety.
This move of owning up to their mistake and releasing a public statement disclosing the details of the issue and steps taken to counter it is bold. It also displays the character and goodwill of the brand, and is quite commendable. Lastly, we hope that this really was an isolated event.
