Auction for seized superbikes which was decided to take place on 10Th January'2011 is further postponed so as to attract some more bike enthusiasts. Auction of 13 superbikes in the country including bikes from Harley Davidson, Suzuki Hayabusa and Honda CBR 1000RR is decided by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and only the ones registered with MSTC are allowed to participate. The registration is made quite easy being that the ones interested have to pay a nominal fee and can attend the auction.

A total of 84 bikes were seized by DRI in year 2009 for the spare parts of motorcycles were being smuggled into the country and were reassembled here in some specialized garages of Mumbai and Pune. It is known that Nadar Ali with a team of five other partners used to smuggle the parts from Singapore. Ali experienced a good response from customers keeping a low price of just Rs 11 lakh for these assembled bikes which if legally smuggled would have costed for Rs. 17 lakh. Reason being for seizing bikes was that these were sold to unsuspected buyers and now the owners are to pay a duty of 150% and an amount equal to that of penalty to acquire their bikes again. According to this out of total 84, 64 bikes have been returned to their owners after the payment of above mentioned penalty. Also a buggy was seized by the agency which now have been returned to the owner after being payments made to DRI.
