Here are the top 5 160cc motorcycles you can buy in the market right now
The 160cc motorcycle segment is a highly competitive one with major players like Honda, Bajaj, TVS, Suzuki and Yamaha all having one product here. Even Hero will be entering the segment with the upcoming Xtreme 160R. Here are the top 5 bikes in this segment:
TVS Apache RTR 160 4V BS6 (Rs 1,00,950 - Rs 1,04,000):
The BS6-compliant TVS Apache RTR 160 4V BS6 not just comes with a cleaner motor but also a new LED headlamp. The 159.7cc air-cooled motor gets fuel-injection and delivers 16.02PS and 14.12Nm of torque. It gets Glide Through Traffic (GTT) tech that bumps up engine rpm at low speeds allowing for a smoother getaway. The telescopic forks and monoshock are tuned by KYB/Showa and offer exceptional handling. The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V BS6 makes for a fantastic all-rounder.
Suzuki Gixxer SF BS6 (Rs 1,21,900 - Rs 1,22,900):
The only full faired motorcycle in the segment, the Gixxer SF BS6 gets a complete revamp with a sportier bodywork and ergonomics thanks to the use of lower clip-on handlebars and split seats. It gets an LED headlamp and LED tail lamp and a revised digital instrument console. The BS6-compliant and fuel-injected 155cc motor delivers 13.8PS and 13.6Nm and is a refined unit. It gets underpinnings from the larger Gixxer SF 250 BS6 making it a stable handler. The Suzuki Gixxer SF BS6 impresses with its quality, fit and finish levels and refinement.
Bajaj Avenger Street 160 BS6 (Rs 94,893):
While Bajaj also sells the Pulsar NS160 BS6, it is the Avenger Street 160 BS6 that sits apart from the other 160cc motorcycles. It is the most affordable cruiser in the market and shared its bodywork and underpinnings with the larger Avenger Street 220 BS6. Its 160cc fuel-injected motor now makes 15PS and 13.7Nm. It gets telescopic forks and dual shock absorbers. Braking is via a 260mm front disc and 130mm drum brake with single-channel ABS. The Avenger Street 160 BS6 makes sense for shorter riders owing to its low seat height.
Honda CB Hornet 160R (Rs 93,042 - Rs 95,542):
Honda will soon launch the CB Hornet 160R with a BS6 compliant motor. However, the BS4 Hornet 160R is available for a limited time. It is a good looking motorcycle with sharp bodywork and features like LED headlamp, LED tail lamp and full-digital instrument console. The BS4 compliant 162.7cc motor is the only carbureted unit here and delivers 15.09PS and 14.5Nm. It gets a diamond type frame with telescopic forks and monoshock. Braking is via a front 276mm front disc and 130mm drum (optional 220mm disc) with single-channel ABS. The Hornet 160R offers good performance and looks fantastic.
Yamaha FZS-FI BS6 (Rs 1,02,700):
The Yamaha FZS-Fi BS6 now gets a muscular bodywork but with more upright and comfortable ergonomics thanks to a taller handlebar and a single-piece seat. It gets an LED headlamp and negative LCD instrument console. The BS6-compliant and fuel-injected 149cc motor delivers 13.2PS and 12.8Nm and is now tuned for better low-end grunt. Underpinnings include telescopic forks and monoshock and a fat 140 section rear radial tyre. Braking is via a 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc with single-channel ABS. The FZS-FI BS6 is a good looking motorcycle that works well in the urban environment.
