BREAKING: Updated Ather 450X Gen3 Electric Scooter Launched In India

It is priced at Rs 1,57,507, and offers better range along with many more upgrades

Ather Energy has launched the updated iteration of its electric scooters, the 450 Plus Gen3 and 450X Gen3 and has priced them at Rs 1,33,391 and Rs 1,57,507 (ex-showroom India, including FAME II subsidies), respectively. 

This makes the 450 Plus Gen3 and 450X Gen3 Rs 2,605 and Rs 5,106 more expensive than the outgoing models. These scooters now feature a 20 percent bigger battery, new tyres, additional luggage options among other updates.

The main upgrade on the Gen3 is the bigger battery pack, now having a capacity of 3.7kWh, as opposed to the 2.9kWh battery pack on the older scooter. Thanks to this battery pack, the range for both the scooters is now bumped up, while they have also gained 3.6kg in weight.

The Ather 450X Gen3 offers a certified range of 146km, which is a considerable bump from its earlier certified range of 116km. Also, now the claimed real world range in Eco mode is 105km, while the claimed range in Ride mode is 85km. These are significant increases from the earlier 85km range in Eco mode and 70km in Ride mode.

Similarly, the Ather 450 Plus Gen3 too now offers a certified range of 108km, a slight increase of 8km from that of the outgoing model, while the claimed range in Eco mode and Ride mode are now 85km and 70km. In comparison, the older 450 Plus had a claimed range of 70km in Eco mode and 60km in Ride mode.

Also new are optional luggage bags that can be mounted at the rear and the apron. The tail bag has a capacity of 18 litres, while the front luggage bag can store 5 litres. This is in addition to the 22 litres of underseat storage that the scooters offer.

The 450X Gen3 also gets new MRF tyres with a round profile, and while it retains the same 90/90 section front tyre, the rear gets a chunkier 100/80 section rubber. The Gen3 also features a new UI on the 7-inch touchscreen, which now has 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. The rear-view mirrors’ design has also been revised, which Ather claims offer better rear visibility. 

Apart from these changes, the Ather 450 Plus Gen3 and 450X Gen3 continue to retain the hardware and features from the outgoing model. While the increase in range is a much-needed welcome upgrade, we did expect Ather to also bring out a more powerful motor to better take the fight to its rivals - the Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube ST and upcoming Simple One.
