Hero Electric Dispatched Zero Vehicles In April 2022

Modified On Apr 29, 2022 04:06 PM By Nishaad for Hero Electric Optima

The global chip shortage and supply chain collapse has led to Hero dispatching no vehicles in April 2022

Hero Electric has been at the receiving end of the global chip shortage. The company reported zero dispatches in April 2022, as the shortage, coupled with supply chain limitations, meant that there was a major loss in production.

This, in turn, has increased the waiting period for some of its models to more than 60 days. To make things worse, select dealerships of the brand don’t have any stock to be put on display.

The halt is rather untimely as Hero Electric had been witnessing rapid growth in the sales of its scooters. The company claims that it was somehow able to manage the chip shortage up until now, but the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine collapsed the supply chain, worsening the situation.

The company also claims that as it readies alternate sources, it’s using this time to increase its production capacity at its Ludhiana and Pithampur plants.

A lot of EV-related fire accidents have happened recently in India. Products from Okinawa and Jitendra EV were among those battery-powered models that burnt to a crisp. You can read about the Okinawa incident here and about the Jitendra EV issue here

Addressing the issue, Hero Electric also said it will be revisiting its systems and processes related to batteries to further reinforce the quality assurance of its bikes. It will be done through thorough audits of the battery-production factories in order to ensure the safety of the battery systems and the company’s customers.

If you want to get your hands on an electric scooter, we recommend that you take a look at the likes of Ather 450X, Ola S1, Bajaj Chetak and the TVS iQube Electric.
