As the demand for two-wheelers in India is on an uphill, Hero MotoCorp is getting ready to cater to the increased requirement with its plans to expand its production capabilities. Despite the trying economic conditions, reports predict a sale of 14 million units in the two-wheeler segment of the country this year. This prompted India's largest manufacturer of two-wheelers to raise its production capacity by 50 per cent to 60, 000 vehicles a month. They will also increase the production of their 125cc bikes by 25 per cent to 75, 000 units per month. On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp is also 'apparently' in the process to do away with the 'Honda' tag from their vehicles, and may phase out their recently launched scooter Hero Maestro and two motorbikes Hero Ignitor and Hero Impulse.
Anil Dua, Senior VP (Marketing & Sales), Hero MotoCorp, confirmed that the company is indeed in the process of transition of all their models from the erstwhile joint brand, Hero Honda to the Hero brand. But he refutes the claims of phasing out the three new models. He clarifies that the magnanimous response has, in fact, prompted them to augment their production capabilities. He further revealed that Hero has been launched as a brand in collaboration ABANS, a Sri Lankan business house. He went on to add that Nepal is next on their expansion list, but Hero won't stop just there. They also plan to launch their products in other international markets like Central America and parts of Africa later this year. Besides the expansion plans, Hero also announced their third new global partners. Hero MotoCorp will now be seen partnering with Engines Engineering, an Italian design company.
