The Austrian auto major KTM is using an aggressive strategy for the Indian market. As we reported earlier, KTM RC 200 and RC 390, which have been officially unveiled at 2013 EICMA in Milan, will make their Indian debut at 2014 Auto Expo in February 2014 and the bikes are expected to launch in India by mid-2014.
After that, the company is planning something bigger for India. It might launch the most advanced dual purpose sport tourers KTM 1190 Adventure and its 'R' variant in India. A couple of weeks ago, the KTM 1190 Adventure R was spotted in India, near Kohler with its sibling KTM 950 Adventure, which has been discontinued in 2006.
The dual purpose tourer can be used for touring as well as for off-roading. The bike has been powered by a 1195cc, liquid-cooled, 75° V-twin, which also powers the ktm RC8 R racing machine. With a distinct tuning, it churns out a maximum power of 148hp and comes mated with a six speed gear-box.
Made on a tubular space frame, the bike features WP Suspension Up Side Down front forks, WP Suspension monoshock rear suspension system, dual 320mm disk brakes with Brembo brake calipers at the front and 267mm disk brakes at the rear. Suspension travel of the bike is 220mm, which cope with a ground clearance of 250mm and it weighs 217kg.
KTM 1190 Adventure also features number of advanced technologies like digital console, traction control and tyre pressure monitoring systems. One of the best braking systems used in the bike is assisted by Bosch's 9ME Combined-ABS system and Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC).
