Indian Two Wheeler Market: Sales November 2013

The Indian two-wheelr market, largest in the world and still growing fastest seeing a tremendous growth not only in the commuter segment, but in the performance bike segment as well. Manufacturers from all over the world are eyeing on the market with their products. Recently, one more major auto maker Triumph joined the market with its range of superbikes in five different catagories. Although, more than 70 percent market share still comes from the commuter segment, which is ruled by the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp. And here we are with the sales data of the previous month, let's see what was the performance of the key players in November, 2013.
1.) Hero MotoCorp Limited (HMCL): In the month of October 2013, Hero created a new industry benchmark with a record sales of more than 6.25 lakh vehicles. Further strengthening its market leadership, Hero MotoCorp despatched 5,30,530 units of two-wheelers in the month of November, compared to 5,02,305 units despatched in the corresponding month last year, thereby a growth of 5.62 %.
HMCL retailed a record 1.2 million units plus in the months of October–November this year, thus reporting a strong growth of 9% over the corresponding period in the previous year, when the company had retailed over 1.1 million units.
2.) Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India (HMSI) Limited: The second largest 2Wheeler company in India, once again led the industry growth with its positive sales backed by postive customer demand. Festive mood continued in November, 2013 as HMSI clocked 319,080 units sales thereby registering impressive 43% growth over 223,145 units sold in November, 2012.
This growth came from both motorcycle and automatic scooter segments. In Nov’13, HMSI Motorcycle sales grew 39% to 150,995 units while automatic scooter sales grew 46% to 168,085 units. Exceedingly positive customer response for Honda’s quality two-wheelers contributed to the impressive sales.
3.) Bajaj Auto Limited (BAL): The Pune based company Recorded a decline of 14.70% in the sales of November 2013 at 2,78,70 units compared to 3,26,72 units sold in the corresponding month of the previous year. Reason might be more focus on the foriegn manufacturers and export oriented products. However, it recorded a growth of 8% in the export numbers with 1,33,731 units. Baja is also focusing on higher capacity bikes like pulsar 375 to be launched next year, while maintaining its commuter line-up up to date.
4.) TVS Motors Limited: TVS Motors' two wheeler sales stood at 155,604 units in November 2013 against 166,783 units in November 2012, which shows a decline of 6.7%. Domestic two wheeler recorded sales of 135,218 units in November 2013 as against 150,056 units registered in the month of November 2012. With increased production and launch of new models the company plans to continue the market share gain in the motorcycle and overall two wheelers. Scooters sales grew marginally by 2% increasing from 37,470 units in November 2012 to 38,331 units in November 2013. Motorcycles sales for the month of November 2013 stood at 61,471 units against 65,494 units in November 2012.
5.) Yamaha Motors India: Continuing on its quest to witness high sales growth, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. has registered a growth of 7% in domestic sales during November 2013 as compared to the corresponding period last year. The company sold 39,777 units in November 2013 as against 37,344 units sold in November last year in the domestic market, while in the export markets the company sold 17,383 units in November 2013 as compared to 7,344 units sold in the same month last year achieving a growth of 137%. The overall sales stood at 57,160 units in November 2013 while 44,688 units were sold in November 2012, thereby registering a 27.90% overall growth.
6.) Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd. (MTWL): Mahindra continued to grow its presence in the two wheeler segment during November 2013. The company reported sales of 24,245 units during November 2013, a growth of 126%. Domestic volumes stood at 23831 units, a growth of 136 % over the previous year.
