Indian Two-Wheeler Market Sales Report: October 2016

Despite being the festive month, sales of the Indian two-wheeler market remained almost constant in October 2016 in comparison with the previous month.
The Indian two-wheeler market has again seen a phenomenal growth during Diwali season with respect to the corresponding period of the previous year. However, the overall market has remained constant in the month of October 2016 when compared to the previous month. Even some of the major players recorded new sales milestones with highest-ever sales in September 2016, may be due to festive days of Ganesh Chaturthi and Navratri. So, let's check out how the major players in the Indian two-wheeler market have performed during the period of October 2016.
Hero MotoCorp (HMCL): With sales of 6,63,153 units, October is Hero MotoCorp's third consecutive month of six-lakh plus sales after August (6,16,424) and September (6,74,961). The company has registered 3.65 per cent growth against the 6,39,802 unit sales of October 2015. However, the October 2016 sales figure is around 1.75 per cent down when compared to the previous month.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI): Recording an overall growth of 9 per cent, Honda sold 4,92,367 two-wheelers in October 2016 against over 4,31,865 units sold in October 2015. Like its biggest rival, HMCL, HMSI has also seen a downfall of 13.5 per cent when compared to the sales of September 2016. If we look at the overall sales during the entire festive season (September and October 2016) the company has crossed 10 lakh sales mark for the first time with just the Activa's sales crossing the 7 lakh mark.
Bajaj Auto (BAL): The only major player in the market without any scooter on offer sold 3,07,892 motorcycles in October 2016. The company sold 3,08,733 units in the month of October 2015, which means that the sales figure have remained almost constant. The company is regularly seeing a growth in the domestic market, while the overall sales remain constant due to continuous fall in the export market figures.
TVS Motor: TVS sold 3,03,885 two-wheelers in October 2016, registering an impressive growth of 15.1 per cent against the 2,64,112 units recorded in October 2015. The company saw 14.5 per cent hike in the motorcycle segment with 1,21,550 units, while the scooter sales remained almost constant with 92,417 units. Domestic two-wheeler sales of TVS grew by 17.6 percent, increasing from 2,31,491 units in October 2015 to 2,72,229 units in October 2016.
India Yamaha Motor (IYM): Selling 86,428 units in October 2016 as against 70,812 units in October 2015, Yamaha India has registered 22 per cent growth in the domestic market. Including the export figures, the company has crossed 1 lakh sales mark for two consecutive months (September and October). Besides the new and advanced product line-up, another big reason contributing to this growth is the company's increasing focus on expanding to tier II and III cities, targeting a larger group of the population.
Royal Enfield (RE): Royal Enfield continues 2016 with a strong sales performance and posted overall sales of 59,127 motorcycles in October 2016. The company recorded a growth of 33 percent over the same period last year, when it sold 44,522 units combined in domestic and export markets. RE is further going to invest Rs 600 crore in the development of products and facilities, aiming to become a global leader in the mid-sized motorcycle segment.
