A couple of weeks ago, two KTM Adventure test mules were spotted in India near Kohler. One was KTM 1190 Adventure R and the other was KTM 950 Adventure. The bikes were not fully covered as the other test bikes, however, there were numbers missing on the liscence plate. Both the riders were covered by full protection gears.
We all know that KTM's Indian partner, Bajaj Auto is not only selling KTM bikes via their Pro Biking dealerships, but it also makes some of these orange mchines at its Chakan Plant. Till now, the company has launched 2 bikes KTM Duke 200 and 390 in India and also manufactures Duke 125 along with these bikes at the Indian plant. However, the company is expected to launch the entire KTM range in India in years to come.
KTM 1190 Adventure R is a dual purpose machine which can be used on dirt as well as for touring. It is powered by a 1195cc, 75° V arrangement, liquid-cooled engine, which also gives duty to the company's RC8 R racing machine. The bike is capable to churn out 148hp and comes with traction control and tyre pressure monitoring systems.
It features a number of advanced features like tubular space frame, WP Suspension Up Side Down front forks, WP Suspension monoshock rear suspension system, dual 320mm disk brakes with Brembo brake calipers at the front, 267mm disk brakes at the rear. One of the best braking systems has been used in the bike, which is assisted by Bosch's 9ME Combined-ABS system and Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC).
The bike weighs 217kg and has a quite good groung clearance of 250mm, which cope with the 220mm suspension travel of both the front and rear suspension system.
KTM 950 Adventure was also a dual purpose bike of the company, which was replaced by the KTM 990 Adventure and 990 Adventure R in 2006. The bike was powered by a 942cc, V-twin engine, which churns out 102hp. The bike touches a top speed of 215kmph and equiped with dual front disk and single rear disk brake systems.
Presence of these big bikes in India, hints towards two possibilities. One is KTM may launch these bikes in India by the end of 2014. And the second is, Bajaj Auto is going to manufacture these bikes for export to the other markets like Duke 125.
But here arises one more question, is the KTM re-launching the 950 Adventure bike?
