The emerging Indian two wheeler manufacturer, Mahindra Two Wheelers, is working on a 160cc commuter bike, says Autocar Professional. As per the reports, the bike is expected to be launched by the end of 2014 or early 2015, after the launch of its 110cc scooter.

Autocar Professional’s source associated to the project said them, “MTWL is working on a 160cc premium commuter motorcycle, which, if all goes well, is expected to be rolled out either by end-2014 or in early 2015. However, the utmost priority for the company remains to roll out the ready 110cc scooter, which is squarely aimed at garnering volumes for them.”

The Pune based company will position its 160cc motorcycle in the Indian market as a premium commuter, which will be loaded with features and priced as the entry level bikes of the 150cc segment. It’s a very influential project for the company, however, they are focusing more on the launch of 110cc scooter, which will join the fastest growing segment of the auto Industry and increase the sales volume.

Currently, Mahindra sells only two vehicles in motorcycle category - Centuro and Pantero, both are 110cc commuter bikes. In these models, Centuro is doing quite well in the market with its segment above features at a very affordable price, while Pantero didn’t succeed to appeal its targeted consumers. Looking after the increment in sales figure after the launch of Centuro O1, the company has also launched a striped down and a premium variant of the bike named- Centuro N1 and Centuro O1-D respectively. The N1 variant misses the digital console, while O1-D variant gets the front disc brake.

Mahindra is expected to use the similar strategy with its 160cc bike, which will compete with Yamaha SZ series, Hero Achiever, Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-i and Suzuki GS150R.
