The bikes will come to India via the CKD route. Move should help drop prices significantly
[Update: TVS Motor Company Acquires Norton Motorcycles]
- The Norton Commando and Dominator are currently brought to India via the CBU route.
- This route attracts heavy taxes and custom duties and has the Commando and Dominator costs Rs 20.99 lakh and Rs 23.7 lakh (ex-showroom India) respectively
- Starting next year, the bikes could be assembled at Motoroyale’s facility in Ahmednagar.
Kinetic’s Motoroyale division holds many exotic brands among others, in its portfolio. They include Hyosung, MV Agusta, SWM, FB Mondial and Norton. Last year they had launched the exotic Norton Commando and Dominator in India. Priced at Rs 20.99 lakh and Rs 23.7 lakh (both, ex-showroom India), these bikes turned out to be quite expensive owing to them being brought here via the CBU route. During the launch last year, we were told that these bikes would be assembled here in India. Now we have a timeline for the same.

The Norton Dominator and Commando would be assembled in Kinetic’s Ahmednagar facility and the localised bikes could be launched by early next year. The move to localise the bikes and get them here via the CKD route should attract lower taxes and help bring prices of both bikes down. However, given the exotic nature of the bikes, expect localisation to be minimal and critical components like the motor and frame to be imported from the United Kingdom. With localisation, the Commando and Dominator are expected to cost around Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.
Both the Commando Sport Mk II and the Dominator have a 961cc, air-cooled, parallel-twin that delivers 80PS and 90Nm. They are premium retro-motorcycles with modern underpinnings. Know more details about these bikes here.
