Yamaha Motor India is now increasing its presence in the premium motorcycles segment. After launching the YZF-R3 in 2015, the company is planning to bring its naked version- MT-03 to the Indian shores in 2016. According to some recent reports, the bike could be unveiled in the country at the Auto Expo that has been scheduled in February 2016. The naked sport motorcycle is expected to be priced under Rs. 3 lacs and it will compete with the premium offerings like KTM 390 Duke, Kawasaki Z250 and Benelli TNT 300.
Yamaha MT-03 is a streetfighter style motorcycle based on the existing YZF-R3. There are just two major changes in the motorcycle which are the elimination of the front fairing and a tweaked steering geometry. Both the motorcycles share the same platform along the 321cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin-cylinder engine. There is no change in the performance of the motor and it continues to make 41.4bhp of maximum power at 10,750rpm and a peak torque of 29.6Nm at 9,000rpm.
The upcoming Yamaha MT-03 gets lightweight alloys that come with 110/70 section front and 140/70 section rear tubeless tyres. Both the wheels have been equipped with disc brakes for achieving a better braking performance. It has an adjustable mono-shock at the rear and telescopic forks up front. With these premium features and a well refined parallel-twin motor, the MT-03 is looking a good option for the premium motorcycle buyers.
