Poor sales and lack of ABS could be the reason behind Yamaha’s decision to discontinue the 150cc motorcycles
- The Yamaha R15S and Fazer 150 have witnessed a dip in demand of late.
- Both bikes fail to comply with new safety norms which requires ABS for 150cc+ bikes.
- Yamaha now offers five motorcycles in the 150cc segment.
Yamaha India has pulled the plug on two of its 150cc motorcycles - the YZF-R15S And Fazer 150. The fact that the YZF-R15S And Fazer 150 were not updated with ABS is the reason why the Japanese bike manufacturer decided to take these motorcycles off the shelf.
The R15S followed the same design language as the first-gen R15 and was quite popular among enthusiasts. However, ever since Yamaha brought the R15 V3.0, the R15S slowly started to lose its popularity, which could be one of the reasons for its poor sales performance.
Although the Fazer 150 was based on the popular FZ series, it never set the sales chart on fire like its cousins. So, it didn’t make sense for Yamaha to update the Fazer 150 with ABS along with FZ Fi and the FZ-S Fi Version 3.0.
Even after discontinuing two motorcycles, Yamaha India still has five 150cc motorcycles in its lineup, including the MT-15, FZ Fi, FZ-S Fi, R15 V3.0 and the SZ-RR.
