Bullet 350 Expert Review
Overview
One of the most iconic and loved motorcycles of all time, the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 received a comprehensive makeover in 2023. With an evolved design, new features, and new-generation mechanicals, the Bullet 350 continues its legacy in the 350cc segment of classic motorcycles. The Bullet 350 is a perfect motorcycle for riders looking to be a part of Royal Enfield's heritage.
Design
Despite a thoroughly revised design, the new Royal Enfield Bullet 350 maintains its original look that has existed for decades. All the traditional elements of the Bullet 350, including a rounded headlamp, rounded fuel tank, triangular side panels and slightly squared rear fender, are still intact. However, all these panels are slightly redesigned, with the motorcycle also getting a new rounded tail lamp and turn indicators.
Except for the base-spec Military version, all other versions of the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 have stylish hand-painted pinstripes on the fuel tank and old-school Bullet badges. Staying true to its tradition, the Bullet 350 comes with spoke wheels. Except for the top-spec Black Gold colour, which gets a blacked-out theme for the engine, exhaust pipe, and wheels, the other colour options get the chrome treatment for these elements.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The Bullet 350 is the fourth motorcycle from Royal Enfield to get the new-generation single-cylinder, air-cooled, 349cc J-series engine. Producing 20.2PS at 6,100rpm and 27Nm at 4,000rpm, this engine feels much smoother than the previous-generation UCE engine.
Thanks to its linear power delivery, the Bullet 350 offers predictable performance with significantly reduced vibrations at higher RPMs. The new engine makes the Bullet 350 perfect for city commuting and relaxed highway cruising. The engine is paired with a 5-speed transmission that allows effortless and smooth gear shifting.
Handling & Ride Quality
The Royal Enfield Bullet 350 shares the suspension setup, brakes, and tyres with the Classic 350. The 41mm telescopic fork and dual-sided coil springs have significantly improved the riding dynamics and the way the Bullet 350 handles, especially at higher speeds. It now feels more balanced and responsive, making it easier to navigate through different road conditions. On the highways and winding roads, the Bullet 350 feels more planted and inspires more confidence.
The 300mm front disc brake does a decent job of stopping the motorcycle easily, but it could use a bit more initial bite and feel. On the other hand, the 270mm rear disc brake in the dual-channel ABS versions provides a good sense of control. The single-channel ABS version gets a rather old-school 153mm drum brake for the rear wheel.
Comfort
Besides making the new Bullet 350 more agile and composed to ride, the new-generation suspension setup effectively absorbs bumps and rough patches on the road. It ensures that the Bullet 350 maintains stability and traction on smoother and unpaved roads. The motorcycle remains manageable over bad roads and doesn't compromise overall comfort.
With a seat height of 805mm, the new Royal Enfield Bullet 350 comfortably accommodates riders of different heights. The neutral positioning of the footpegs offers a relaxed riding posture that enhances comfort during long rides.
Features
Staying true to its old-school appeal, the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 has retained its key elements but upgraded some of its features. It shares some features with the Classic 350: A part-digital instrument console, including an analogue speedometer and an LCD screen for fuel level, odometer, and trip meter as well as the new-generation switches, USB chargers, rounded rearview mirrors and tubular pillion grab rail.
Should you buy
The increased pricing of the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 has brought it much closer to the positioning of the Classic 350. However, with slightly revised side panels, old-school colours, a different and more comfortable seat, and the iconic squared rear fender, the Bullet 350 retains an identity of its own.
