Ampere Nexus Expert Review
Overview
The Ampere Nexus is a sleek looking electric scooter, which has good build quality and finish levels and packs a decent list of features. But does it have what it takes to stand out in this vast ocean of electric scooters? Let’s have a look:
Design
The Ampere Nexus has a clean looking design language which will appeal to both young riders and the more mature audience. The scooter looks quite handsome and has a sporty undertone to it. The build quality is quite good with no visible panel gaps and dangling wires. The switches too provide a nice tactile feedback which is useful while riding.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The Ampere Nexus is powered by a 3kWh LFP battery. Its 4kW swingarm-mounted motor offers a claimed top-speed of 93kmph and has a claimed range of 136km on a single charge. Though you can expect a real-world range of around 100-105km, which should be quite sufficient for most users. The scooter offers three primary riding modes—Eco, Comfort, and Power. The riding modes do work well though you would notice some throttle lag in the Eco and Comfort mode when you wish to overtake other vehicles on the road. This just means you would have to plan your overtakes well or switch to the Power mode.
Handling & Ride Quality
The Ampere Nexus is quite an agile scooter. Its lightweight design and nimble handling makes the scooter a breeze to weave through the traffic. The scooter is eager to change directions quickly, which may feel unsettling at first but once you get the hang of it, it sure is fun.
The suspension setup is on the firmer side, especially at the rear. While this results in a slightly harsh ride quality especially over potholes at city speeds, the suspension performs better when riding with a pillion as it becomes more plush, making it more family-friendly.
The brakes on the Nexus do the job quite well but will require a firm squeeze of the levers to extract all the braking performance. Once engaged, the brakes bring the scooter to a halt swiftly, although an initial bite is somewhat lacking.
Comfort
One of the highlights of the Ampere Nexus is the comfort. The long and spacious seat allows for two large adults to be comfortably seated. The riding posture is nice and upright giving you a commanding posture. The seat is well padded and isn't too soft providing good support. The only major drawback which we felt is that if you are someone who is over 6-feet tall, the handlebars do graze your knees while taking a U-turn.
The scooter is practical too! It gets a front cubby hole which is deep enough to hold a half-litre water bottle, and the under-seat storage of 24 litres is spacious enough to carry your weekly groceries.
Features
The Ampere Nexus has a bunch of features, a 7-inch TFT screen with Bluetooth, WiFi connectivity, and turn-by-turn navigation. However, the absence of Google Maps, which is available on competitors like Ather, is a noticeable miss. That said, the turn-by-turn navigation works reasonably well, despite encountering a minor glitch where the distance travelled was overestimated by quite a margin even though the actual distance travelled was barely anything. Every information on the TFT screen is well laid out but the visibility of the screen could have been better under harsh sunlight.
Should you buy
The Ampere Nexus is a solid contender in the electric scooter market especially if you are looking for a scooter which does everything. In all senses, the Nexus is a “Jack of All Trades.” It offers good practicality for the family, decent performance for the enthusiasts and a nice list of features for the techies. Overall, the Ampere Nexus is a scooter which you should definitely consider if you are in the market for a well-rounded electric scooter.

- Suresh Kumar Sahu, The owner of Ampere Nexus ST
More research is needed on how to increase the mileage range, I tested this two-wheeler in about one sitting and found that it offers a range of around 70 km on a single charge and in Eco mode. But the company claims its range is 105 km in echo mode. Which is completely false. Tires, battery type and motor other components of this scooter are very goodRead More
